Does anybody know if there is an established indoor 200m rifle range available to the public in the US?

I am just trying to source potential options for a client.

I have heard of one privately-owned one nearby locally in far NW IL; A purpose-built one-laner that (reportedly) goes out to 300 yards excavated by a more well-to-do and delightfully eccentric gun nut we can all admire. I doubt it's up for sale, but I thought it was worth mentioning as ever since I've heard tell of the place I've been intrigued! Especially as since this person *could* have likely had the same range above ground on the same land for much cheaper, no doubt. The whole enterprise takes on a fun "James Bond Villain's Lair" motif when it is constructed underground, at least to my thinking. Great Fun! I only wish that I was invited to shoot my M-1 at that range.

I'm not sure how long they are, but there are some old unused chicken houses here in GA that are still standing. I know of some guys who have built up a berm at one end and have used them as indoor shooting ranges. I'd guess most are at least 100 yards long and some may well be 200.

Not the best illustration, but what I could find. These are modern buildings. There are lots of older wooden structures no longer in use around here.

Interesting topic. I once worked for a major high-tech outfit here in Silicon Valley that had some HUGE buildings with equally huge straight, connecting hallways. I often thought that it would be oh-so-easy to build a completely indoor full-distance high power rifle range all the way out to 600 yards. Wind calls would be easy.

There's a 100-yd range under Cabela's in Grapevine, TX. Uses (IIRC) three tubes out under the parking lot.

I prefer outdoor exercises.....went to a 100yrd indoor range once and the guy next to me was shooting a .338 mag, ported......operative word was once! I lasted for three rounds, tapped out and left!
My teeth rattled for a week.....

I guess you’d need either a high ceiling or limit use to flatter shooting rifles. I don’t think the roof joists of a chicken house would do well with a 45-70 at long ranges.

With traditional 45/70 a 405gr bullet @ ~1300 fps the bullet only rises about a foot above line of sight getting to 200 yards. Longer ranges would eventually be an issue but 200 yards is just fine with pretty much any firearm. Even my subsonic 300 Blackout only rises ~18 inches above line of sight at 200 yards.

Looking on the Royal Range www,
"Range 3, our rifle range, is the longest in the state of TN, with 57 actual yards, capable of sustaining up to 50-caliber."

Cullman Shooting Sports here in Alabama has a 110 yard (100 meter) indoor range.
I do not know of a public 200 meter indoor. Bart B. makes frequent reference to the Sierra 200 yard tunnel, but I bet you would have to have corporate pull to get on it.

160 years ago, Mr Whitworth built an enclosed 600 yard range for the tests leading up to his famous hexagonal bore rifle. Built two, the first burned down. But then he was an iron works tycoon with the resources to do it. And I don't know what a 19th century indoor rifle range looked like, I could not find pictures.

Depending on what your use is for , you might be able to lease an indoor arena , if its just for a single day event . or a few days even. Look for a roping arena that's privately owned . you would have to provide a sturdy backstop I'm sure . would have nice high ceiling's .

I have access to a 100 yard indoor range when they are closed. It allows me to work on loads with the fans turned off and no wind to adjust for.
