2024 Turkey Season Firearms/Bows?

Haven't turkey hunted in a few years now but still have the proper tool for the job. Mossberg 500A 12 ga. turkey gun. Has a 2.5x Leupold ultralight scope with the "turkey ranger" reticle in it. I think Leupold discontinued that style reticle a few years ago. This is an older picture of it; since then it got a nicer sling and it now has a Carlson extended turkey choke that patterns real nice. It may go up for sale if I don't start getting out in the turkey woods this year. IMG_1872.JPG .. IMG_1142.JPG .. Still downsizing and need more room in the safes.

I have two shotguns that I use regularly.
The Remington 870 Supermag 3½" with .690 extended tube kills on one and and wounds on the other!

It wears a claw no slip sling and a four shell ammo carrier velcro fastened to the butt.
This faithful gun is on its second barrel because #1 son threw it onto the bank of the Wabash river when his waders started taking on water. The impact must have bent the barrel because it shot high and left afterwards. A new barrel fixed it.
I have hunted with this gun from Reelfoot, Tennessee to Chetek Lake, Saskatchewan. It suits me.
I usually shoot 3" shells for turkeys....not 3½inchers.

The gun that have killed more turkeys with than any other is my 3" H&R single barrel.

It is super lightweight and throws an incredible dense pattern with 3" #5 shot with its' factory full choke
It also wears an ammo pad velcro attached to the stock, and an Allen Nylon sling.

Ps. Everyone needs a great gun case.
This Drake brand waterfowl gun case is outstanding. I was able to hunt turkeys this morning. We found some gobblers and wound up crawling through the wet grass to get closer to them. My 870 was dropping wet when I slid it in the case.

I took my gun out of the case to let it dry out and get a coat of Ballistol.
The Drake brand case is made to velcro open the length of the case to allow it to dry!. It also floats if dropped in the water.
What a great, tough case.

Using a family friends Western Field M150A 410 shotgun. The previous owner was like a third grandfather to me.

I find it a little funny to use a 410. I have used 12 gauge 3" & 3 1/2" , 10 gauge 3 1/2" in addition to archery equipment in the past.
The 410 just seams to be a little under gunned 😀

Muzzleloading rifles firing single projectiles are legal where I hunt turkeys so I like using this. 58 cal might seem like too much but I will definitively say that it absolutely is.

I have not shot my Blackwidow recurve much since deer season.
Just changed from an old Delta quiver to a Selway.

So I'll be using my 870 Express Supermagnum again. 3" Magnum Blend shells w Superfull Remchoke.
Just got my tag so reckon if I can't sleep, will do the drive to state ground and secure my "spot" by getting there waaaaaay early.
Permethrined my camo yesterday.

Krogers would be a lot cheaper bird LOL

I have to add: the Krogers turkey probably tastes better also 😋

On my old private ground the first yr toms w 10.5 inch beard weighed 21 lbs. Took a few of that age class and they were fine tasting. A little more chew factor though.

Shot a 24# w 13.5" beard closer to home and it must have eaten only acorns as it was bitter. Not even worth a 2nd bite.

Hardly anyone Turkey hunts predominantly for the meat.

If they did, they probably also eat 3 day old roadkill and bass from a fish killed lake.
