Does anyone have any experience with using this upper and what type of mags did you find to be reliable?

As best I know, the 21 Ghengis uppers were solely the product of Alexander Arms. They do not show any uppers/parts for it on their current web site.

It's a neat idea (since I already have a metric buttload of 5.45x39 ammo) but I'd probably not spend the money on a product that's not in production and doesn't appear to be supported by the manufacturer.

I think they dropped the Genghis from their product line in 05 or 06, maybe? It has not been shown on their website for some time.

According to Sweeney's Book of the AR II, Alexander discontinued their 5.45 models a few years back due to a lack of interest.

Call Alexander. From what I know, they just did a limited run of actions and barrels. Nothing immediately shootable, but something for a builder or a 'smith. Pretty salty price, IIRC.

Just to clarify, I will soon be recieving a .21 genghis upper and I haven't been able to get a clear answer as to how well regular ar mags work with it. According to the limited info I can find the only mags that work well with it are hk416 mags and I was just trying to find someone who may have had some trial and error experience with magazines for the upper

This is literally the first time that I have ever even heard of that particular cartridge. My guess is that not a whole heck of a lot of people on here have any first hand experience with it, as we don't seem to have a lot of lot of wildcatters on THR, at least from what I have seen. I would be interested to hear out it shoots and stuff though...

Sure you've heard of it...

No wildcattin' necessary

Ha! I thought that the reference was just to the bullet, not the entire round. Why rename it? Maybe thats why there was no interest....

From what I understand, way way back in the day before most of us knew what a 5.45x39 round was, Alexander Arms had the bright idea to chamber an AR15 upper in it. I expect their marketing strategy was to give a fancy name to a commie cartridge.

He only rates a .21 because he got too hammered one night to notice his nose was bleeding out, and died in his sleep from it.
