I am getting ready to put together a batch of 22-250 reloads and was curious if anyone had any experience with one powder or the other in this caliber. I am using your standard old winchester brass, winchester rifle primers, and Hornady 50 grain vmax boat-tailed bullets. Let me know if you used a similar combo and what powder you used. thanks!

h-380 and win 748 have been proven performers for me.

w/ the 50 grain bullet, i suggest you try h-380 first. good chance your load development will start and stop w/ h-380. look for your best accuracy right around 38.0 grains (thus the name 380).

My heavy-barreled Ruger M77 gives me consistently sub-MOA 5-shot groups, often sub-1/2MOA, with 52 gr Speer HPBTs over 36.0 gr of IMR3031 (Remington cases, CCI 200 primers). Velocity runs about 3810 to 3850 fps.

The most uniform performance in 7 different rifles, some custom, some stock has been IMR 4895. Not the fastest but easily the most consistant performer in all bullet weights from 50 grains thru 64 grains. Works well at all temperatures, from below zero to the high 90's in sporter weight and heavy barrels.

I load all my .22-250 rounds with H380. It is considered THE .22-250 powder by many folks I talked to, so I tried it and so far have found no reason to try anything else.

Max loads of IMR 4064 under the 50 Vmax in Win brass gives me groups a bit under 1/2".

Now you have five responses suggesting five different powders. Not much help, huh? :)

I load my 22-250 with IMR4350,55gr. bullet, it is a compressed load It gives me about 3500 fps.

Lots of suggestions for the H380 powder. I have heard that suggestion elsewhere as well. I will probably start here and expand if I need to. Thanks for all of the input, I will report back shortly!

My first time loading the .22-250 was recently and I tried H-380 and IMR4350with 55gr. Nosler BT bullets. The H-380 gave excellent results with 37.0-38.0grains with Winchester brass and Remington primers and the IMR4350 gave just ok results in the same powder range. I have some 60gr. Nosler Partions and some 55gr. Sierra Gamekings that I am going to try some Varget and H-380 with pretty soon.

I agree with BoilerUp, 35 grains of Varget. I use it in Winchester cases with 52gr Hornady bullet, Federal GM210M primers, I also match prep my cases. Easy .5 moa groups and I have on ocassion shot under .5 moa groups from my Remington Model 700VLS w/ Bushnell Elite 5x15x50mm scope. On one ocassion I have shot a .210"ctc group at 100yds from a bench with sand bags with this load using Nosler 50gr Ballistic Tip bullets. I will be the first to say that this group was a total accident and I have not repeated it as of yet.

We're getting some good performance with:

50gr V-Max
Nosler brass
HVarget powder
CCI large rifle primer.

3920fps.

My dad nailed a hog at 200 yards with his 700 VLS. The bullet fragmented, the pig dropped dead.

Ruger M77
36 gr H-380 Designed for the .22-250 @38gr
Win Brass
CCI Lg Rifle primer changed from Fed Mag Primer
55 Nosler BT
Proper seating depth made a ton of difference.

"H380 was developed for the 22-250, FWIW."

Not really, it was just another mil. surplus powder.

Bruce Hogden bought it and then labled it H-380 because a 38.0 gr charge shot so well in his 22-250.
