Is anyone seeing more 22 LR ammo available?Midway and Ammoman has none.Walmart puts out what they have at 7:30 AM and my understanding it is the same ones in line. I am unable to get there at that time. Byron

I suggest you dig into your stash that you saved up long before this latest ammo panic. :)

Sorry... I don't intend to rub salt in your wound. But I had to say it. ;)

JCWIT, not sure what you meant by that.
Mike1234567,would be nice to have a stash.

JCWIT, noted you were Army during the time I was. I was an 11B with the
4th Inf 68-69.

Byron, I do feel for you. The ammo shortage, especially .22LR is an on-going long-term issue. What little becomes available is quickly snatched up by the "flippers" who buy it all at relatively normal off-the-shelf prices, before anyone else can, and then they re-sell on forums, GunBroker, etc. The only folks who have ammo are the flippers, people who know the right people, and those who stashed what they could while the getting was good. There may be a glimmer of hope because some on-line retailers are allowing back-orders... I don't know which ones though.

Thanks Mike. I will see what Midway has on back orders. I note you are in San Antonio. My infantry battalion from Nam is planning its next reunion there, summer of 2015. Byron

Midway is starting to allow back orders on ammo. I just but a bucket of 22LR on order and they're estimating it will be available by the end of the month. I would rather wait then pay 2x -3x market value to some 'flipper'.

While I can't speak for your area of TN, wherever it might be I can tell you up in my area Gander Mountain has had a few flavors of 22 LR show up. My local Gander Mountain stocks ammunition on Thursday mornings and on many occasions I have been the only person in there. I really don't need any but they seem to have it.

Walmart (The Classic) has been hit skip with Federal Ammunition 22LR 36gr Copper Plated, 550ct and Remington Thunderbolts stuff.

When online retailers like Midway do post 22 LR it goes fast. The best advice with these places is to constantly check for availability online. I also suggest a Midway Backorder as was suggested.

Picked up 1500 rounds from Cabela's last week and that's the first I have gotten in a while.

I had over 20k rounds back in December so I thought I could weather the scarcity. It appears I was wrong. This little bit got me back to 7,500 rounds during a time of the year when we don't do as much plinking so I can make it for a while.

I think he was saying we have had countless threads on this topic. Seems like a new one every couple of days

This subject has come up over, and over, and over for the past year.

Demand exceeds supply. It's just that simple.

In the past several weeks MidwayUSA has been accepting backorders for a growing variety of .22LR ammo. One can play the hit and miss game at the retail stores, or place a backorder and be patient.

Until supply catches up, or the demand curve normalizes, this is going to be the state of the market.

And it's going to last a lot longer.

I guess if you can afford $179.99 a brick for 22lr, tax and shipping would not be a whole lot more.

I know plenty of shooters that use $180+ per brick .22lr....They aren't spraying and praying at beer cans with a 10/22, though.

That's absurd. I pay 8.99 for 100 right at my local Cabelas. The past month or two has been an improvement on availability. Cci mini mags and remington something or others are under 10 bucks for 100.

Unfortunately most stores in ct only allow a 100 rounds per person of 22 and 50 per person I think if any other center fire. Keeps the hoarders away.

Dang, Byron, where've ya been? :D I know, I was about the same way a few months ago. I had been VERY occupied with life things for the past couple of years and shooting and ammo was simply not high on the priority list, so imagine my shock when .22 LR ammo of all things was virtually impossible to find!!!

I just backordered some ammo from Midway. Expected shipping is like a month and a half away. MAYBE I'll eventually actually get it (I fully expect delays and ultimately a "discontinued" message...). But, if I get it, great. And when I do, I ain't shootin' it!!!

I have a strong feeling that casual shooting, especially for poor folks like me is soon gonna be a thing of the past. You've got this current ammo shortage going on plus with the last big lead smelter in America being shut down at the end of the year... well, things are lookin' kinda ugly.

Well I was able to pick up two 100 count boxes of 22lr CCI mini mags from Academy this morning. They were the first mini mags I've seen in awhile. Normally Academy sets 100 count boxes aside for those who purchase a 22 caliber firearm leaving only bulk ammo for customers but this morning they must of had enough to put out for the rest of us. Don't get me wrong I do enjoy getting 22lr in bulk especially since I need to replace the 5,000 I sent to my son for Christmas but I do prefer the mini mags as my semi's don't have problems with them.

I was at Wal-Mart this afternoon.

They had about every kind of ammo you could want.
Except .22 RF.

They didn't even have a place on the shelf for .22 RF, as it was all filled up with 9mm, .223, etc!
