Alright guys here is my little review of the Aquila .22 SUPER Colibri ammunition.
(Sorry no pictures, my camera broke )
I stumbled upon this ammo while looking for a more economical solution to getting a suppressor and going through all the federal forms and decided I didn't want to meddle with the BATF, So I picked up a brick of 500 of this ammo from a major retailer online and just got it in yesterday. All of the information I provide here is accurate in my testing, your gun(s) may be different and provide different results.
At first, I looked at the tiny bullets these cartridges had and was almost disappointed with how small they appeared. However, I took my stock Ruger 10/22 and manually loaded a round after realizing that the magazine WILL NOT feed these rounds (Have 1 magazine that has a super colibri stuck in it.)
Now here is the part everyone is probably interested in:
Sound & How loud it is :
Out of the 18'' barrel of the Ruger 10/22, the round was very quiet, about 50% less noise than that of a normal Co2 BB gun (Even this is a conservative way of putting it.). Much louder in pistols than in rifles however, sounds like a CCI CB Short out of a Jennings J-22, but still relatively quiet. (Forget about hitting ANYTHING if you are using a short barrel pistol for shots over 5 yards or so.)
For the penetration and expansion test I used the following:
1x outdated and non-salable English textbook.
1x Stock Ruger 10/22 .22LR Rifle
1x Daisy 008 Co2 pellet/bb pistol.
The 7.4 grain Crossman wadcutter pellet exited the co2 pistol's muzzle at about 445 F.P.S and penetrated 13 pages of the textbook pages. (The cover is opened, the bullets do not have to pass through the cover.)
The Aquila SUPER Colibri .22 round, exited the Ruger 10/22 muzzle at 636 (136 more than advertised) FPS and penetrated 98 pages. The bullet expansion was remarkable, The expanded bullet was 1/4 of an inch in diameter!!!!
Conclusion: This is very fun .22 ammo and is more than powerful enough to take out small game or varmints.
