Does anyone make a youth model, bolt action, mag fed .22 rifle? He is only 10 and on the small side. I really don't want to buy a single shot gun. Let me know. Thanks
With the current price of ammo, get him a Chipmunk or a Kricket. (just kidding on the ammo.)
Always had a ton of fun with a single shot. They make them in bull barrels now too. I've been wanting to get one for myself and make a fullsize stock for it.
What I don't like about many youth rifles is that the striker must often be cocked separately from the bolt.
I strongly encourage you to look at the CZ-USA 452 Scout in .22lr, and I believe you can buy a larger stock for when he grows. I think it comes with a single shot adapter that fits in place like a magazine, and you can buy 5 and 10 round magazines- they are available, but a bit pricey ($30 for a magazine). That would be my choice- CZ USA makes top quality guns at good prices- the best .22 rifles under $500, in my honest opinion (and the opinion of many others).
Yeah I got my youngest a cz scout at that age...it was hard to keep it out of my brother in law's hands. My youngest is 13 now and he's really proud of that rifle.
I put a cheap 1x scope on it to start with so he got used to shooting cans with a scope. Last year he claimed my leupold 2-7 rimfire scope.
Marlin also makes a nice bolt....model 25 I think? He just liked the scout better so that's what we got. We looked at crickets too. He didn't like the single shot deal with them. The scouts have gone up in price though.
What ever you buy I would take a close look at the sights. I bought a Marlin for my son and was not overjoyed with the sights. I liked the sights on another .22 that was the same pricepoint but was convinced to buy American. The adjustment is really poor and wish I had gotten the other rifle.
comes with a single shot adapter and a 5 shot detachable magazine, "The new downsized Model Five Youth is specially engineered for young shooters with a shortened stock (1"), plus a trimmed fore-end for optimum balance. It’s also equipped with a world-class hammer-forged barrel shortened to 16 1/2" for easy pointing, along with fully adjustable rifle sights."
I found a CZ 452 Scout for $279 and it will go to my Grandson Austin. I am very exicted about this. I bought my son a Marlin mod. 39 30 years ago so we will see which one can shoot better than the other. I sure am glad we live in the USA.
i have the Henry youth for my 7 year old little girl. She likes it. It is a bit big for her.
Its a great little gun i shoot it also & really like the Action on the Henry. very smooth for a lever 22
Good choice on the CZ Scout! I bought one for my GF's son to use and it shoots 50 yard groups that can be covered with a nickel, sometimes a dime! So, I also bought one for my nephew! Enjoy!
