I've got the old RCBS case trimmer - Hand crank, the stepped-down shell holder that's supposed to be universal.

The shell holder won't hold the 22 Hornet casings. Even at the smallest setting the shell holder's too big.

When working up loads, I had to take the pilot and cutter from my trimmer and chuck'm in the drill press. I took the reloading press's shell holder for the 22 Hornet and clamped it to the drill press table. It took awhile and few damaged cases, but I eventually managed to get the drill press centered good enough and set to the right height to trim the cases.

The drill press would trim'm alright, but the tolerances on my particular drill press aren't too tight. Casings were definitely not being trimmed to my satisfaction, but it was getting the job done. Getting to the .001" went right out the window for that operation.

Anybody know where I can find the correct shell holder for 22 Hornet for my old RCBS case trimmer, without having to buy a new one?

If not, I might have to machine my trimmer's shell holder to accept reloading press shell holders. I'd hate to have to do that all over one caliber.

Hornet Trimmer

A cheap route would be to buy a Hornet cartridge case gauge and trimmer from Lee. It's cheap and accurate, though perhaps not fast enough for volume production.

I've used Lee trimmers in five calibers and all do an excellent job--for me.

Yank,
There are four different collets for the RCBS rotary trimmer. The Hornet requires the #2 - 09372 at $8.98 from Huntington's.
The Lee is faster when you use it with your drill press and is quite accurate. It costs about the same as the stepped collet for your RCBS trimmer.
If you use the Lee, just lock the spindle of your drill press with the cutter chucked and running at a fairly fast RPM. You leave it on while offering up the cases by hand. It is very quick.
Cheers from Grayest California,
