In your opinion, would a bulk pack of Federal Champion blue box HP from Wally World be the cause of the occasional light primer strike in a new Smith M&P 15-22/Sig 522/Colt M4 or would one look to the FP? Light strike as in you can see where the FP hit by the residue left on the rim but there is no indent. FP or crap ammo?

Check the bolt face and chamber end of the barrel for packed bullet lube and powder fowling. Also the extractor cut in the barrel.

It can build up enough to hold the bolt slightly out of battery and prevent full firing pin impact.

So basically what you're saying is a very good cleaning is in order and then try her out again? Rgr that

Ammo doesn't cause light strikes, guns do. Could be a dirty chamber, dirty bolt face, dirty breech face, dirty firing pin channel, etc. See a pattern? ;)

More than likely, your shooting iron needs a good cleaning.

Pay particular attention to the 'firing pin channel' in the bolt, these areas are generous in their dimensions and can become clogged, hindering the proper movement of the firing pin.

I start running into problems with my buckmark after about 1500 rds. Some misfires or extraction symptoms pop up. After a thorough cleaning I'm good to go for another 1500 rds or so.
