Just read an article in SAR about the L12A1 kit for converting the L1A1 (or, I'll bet with some tweaking the FAL) to .22 LR. Good review, product seems to be very reliable, etc.

Often SAR will have info on how to get them at the end, or tell you that none were imported but the one he fired, etc. But nothing this time. A google search gets me manuals and photos, but no kits. Anyone ever encountered one? Collectors prices, or cheap enough for shooting?

Here's a photo of what they look like in the box:

We had them for our C1A1's up here. No big deal to use. Slide in the barrel insert, use the .22 breech block and mag. No other modifications required.
I'd hate to think about what one is worth though.

My memory is hazy, but I think I saw one for sale on one of the C&R sites once. IIRC, it was expensive. Something like $1500.

Man that would make one heavy .22 rifle. It would probably feel like shooting a BB gun.

I'd love to have one, if they were somewhat reasonably priced. I'm surprised DSA or someone similar hasn't started producing new ones.
