Hello everybody, hope you're having a great day. I was curious in opinions on some good quality .22 semi-auto pistols? I'm in the market to do some cheap plinking I have a good stock of .22lr ammo. I was looking into the Glock G44 but I read many complaints on how it doesn't cycle 36 grain ammunition very well. Thanks everybody for your time and help.

Welcome to the forum!

The Ruger MK pistols are widely considered to be the most reliable .22 automatics, and some versions are amongst the most accurate as well.
Parts and magazines are readily available and there is robust aftermarket support for them as well.

IMO the SR22, M&P .22, Beretta M9-22, Browning Buckmark, and Smith and Wesson Victory are all "good" .22 pistols, but you may find a load or two which they simply wont eat reliably.

Then there are the Taurus and Walther rimfires, which will require you to find one or two loads they actually like.

Run away from the SIG Mosquito. Run far, run fast.....

I have a Beretta Neos I put a red dot on that is an excellent plinker. I have only put bulk ammo, either Federal or Remington both 36 and 40 grain through it with no problems.

Admittingly as of late I have not been running around all over; am I mistaken to think if one wants to currently shoot a .22 semi auto, what you can find is likely more of a factor than what you want?

I have a couple of Ruger Mark IVs, 22/45 Lite and a Volquartsen Black Mamba. The Mark IV is a great platform to work off of, there are so many upgrades available for it.

I have a Mark III hunter that I haven't shot since buying the Mark IVs. I like the Hunter and it's a great shooter ( groups bests of all my .22s ) but it's a bear to clean. The Mark IV, with it's one button take-down is the easiest gun I've seen to clean.

Taurus tx22. Light and reliable and if found <300 a very good deal. A ruger mark series or the buckmark are also good choices.

Ruger mk is where it's at, rock solid and built to last many lifetimes. My mk3 has easily 30,000+ rds through it and looks and shoots like new. Eats everything.
I was going to swap it for a mk4 but refuse to sell it cheap, you can possibly find a good deal on a mk3 because they're a booger to get apart and a lot were sold in favor of the mk4s easier disassembly.

With the advent of the Ruger mk4's take down system , older mark 2 and 3's might be available at a discount rather than collector pricing.

Be aware there IS a mk4 that does not have the new take down system, it was released as a commemorative model with a 4 inch barrel, white grips and NRA engraving.

Another vote for the 22/45 light. It's the most balanced .22lr pistol I've ever shot, and the takedown system makes cleaning a breeze.
