.22 Target Pistols

I am shooting a Hammerlii 208s these days. They are as good as it gets and then some. If you have a spare 2K around you may find a like new one.

But, if you want to go a bit cheaper, look for a very clean used MKII Ruger target or government model, these are already drilled and tapped for a scope mount. These do not have the child safety crap.

My buddy has a Benelli Mp95e and loves it. Better yet, go to Larry's guns .com and take a look at all sorts of good bullseye stuff.

My Sig Hammerli Trailside is very accurate. Picked it up used for $350.00.
Very easy to take down and clean. The slide has the rails built in to mount the optics.

I sense that you want a Model 41 since you're used to them. Go for it. A mere $1000 separates you from owning one. Most of the European target pistols will cost more.

From the used market, you might look for a nice High Standard. The cheapest approach is probably the Ruger from a practical perspective.

The Model 41

Hi there Irishman!

I shot a Model 41 for a few years in our local pistol league and was quite successful with it (league average 592.1). I had to give up the pistol shooting at that time (about 35 years ago) so that I could concentrate on school.

To the point, I was borrowing the 41 from Mr. Bill Dresser of Bay City, MI who was an NRA Rifleman contributor for many years. He used CCI Green Tag and I was using Eley Club. He never had a light strike or a failure to feed using his ammo. However, the Eley Club did not function the 41 right after shooting it with the CCI. I carried a bunch of Q tips and Hoppes with me when we went to the matches. The loading port area was cleaned prior to shooting the Eley Club with excellent results! The gun would function flawlessly and very accurately too! It was quite evident that the Eley was much more precise than the CCI.

So I trust that this information may help you.

Wow - didn't expect to see this one come back from the dead. It was my very first post on THR.

The Purdue Rifle/Pistol club bought a pair of Pardini SPs about a year ago. They shoot like a dream. They'll eat any ammo (the only malfs I've had have been failures for the trigger to reset when I'm in the process of adjusting it) and they'll hide every shot behind a dime if you do your part. The 41s are getting sketchier and sketchier reliability-wise. I'd only trust 3 of the 6 in a competition at this point. It'll probably be a while before we can get another two Pardinis to outfit the rest of the team. They cost 500 more now than they did when we bought them due to the poor performance of the dollar.

I still don't own a .22 of any sort, but I do do a little centerfire bullseye with my 1911. Eventually I'll put a Marvel Type I kit and some Herret grips on it and try competing with that.

The Walther is top of the lineand the 41 will shoot with it. Since you are use to shooting a 41 I would go with a new one. I'm old school and I can shoot with the 41 and Walther with a Smith & Wesson 617. My score would run from 275 to 289 with a revolver. Even when I lose, I still win.
