I would like your opinions. I've narrowed it down to these two guns. The Sig Sauer P220 Super Match or the National Gold Cup Colt Series 70. I'm willing to put the money down for a nice gun. It will be a shooter, we are going to shoot some timed scenario steel plate matches here at home with several buddies and I don't want to buy a beater gun. I want something that will get the job done. So if you've got two cents, lay it down. If you think theres a better choice, lay it down. Thanks for the comments.

Disclaimer: I love 1911's. And SIGS.

Now, note 'properly tuned'. Like them or not, SIGS are almost always dead reliable out of the box.

A 1911 often, but not always, needs tweaking.

No hate here, just relaying what I have observed over too many years and too many guns. :)

I personally love 1911, but the Sig reliability can't be beat in my opinion.

Yea.

O.K.

The ONLY 1911 I have EVER had problems with is a Kimber that had a fubar factory installed extractor. Once I fixed that she ran 4k rounds with no issues during the last USPSA season I user her.

SA 1911A1 - no issue's 5K rounds. (first 1911 I owned)
SA 1911 ultra compact - no issue's rounds unknown. (first carry 1911)
STI 1911 - no issue's 4k rounds (it's the newbie of the lot)

The dedicated 1911 shooters I shoot with have ZERO issue's with their weapons, and generally tend to shoot far more accurately than those with any other platform.

Why?

Ergonomics, weight that helps manage recoil, HIGHLY tunable single action trigger that can NOT be beat by ANY other defensive handgun, excellent diversity in sight variety, and about 100 years of refinement and experience to ensure reliability.

Sig makes good handguns, but they can NOT be made as EXCELLENT as a 1911.

Go with the 1911 for competition.

Buy a Glock. Make it a full size, like a 22 since you can't hit anything with your 27.
