Who has experience with powder coated .223 bullets? Should they be gas checked as well? NOE has some "powder coat style" bullets that don't have lube grooves... anyone have experience with those? What bullet molds do you suggest and what works well? I'd be loading these to shoot out of an AR.

I just got a few in from a very nice member over at CB to try out in my BREN 805. Some came gas checked, and some didn't, so this ought to be interesting.

Please keep me posted! I'm curious about what kind of accuracy can be expected from cast bullets as well.

cast boolits forum is an excellent resource but for certain things it can be a little much. sometimes trying to get the broad strokes out of a topic is a little difficult, you might get the full textbook rather than a pamphlet. that being said the lee six cavity 223 mold seems well reviewed on cast boolits and would probably be the ideal starting point. Once you have the mold you can try different alloys, loads, and gas check set ups to find what works for you

I like the NOE 225 62 gr. fn it has lube grooves and takes a gas check I PC them and gas check as well ,they cycle fine and I get 2" or less at 100 yds. with 21 gr. of IMR 4895 YMMV

I shoot powder coated 223 bullets. I use the Lee 55gn FN mold. I've done some experimenting seeing how far I can push them. So far I've pushed them to 2700fps with no problems. I haven't had time to do any precision accuracy testing, but for my regular shooting, they are on par with jacketed bullets (about 2"). I don't gas check mine, because I see no point as they are powder coated anyway. I did all kinds of testing for cast 223 loads, but I don't remember all the loads. I'll have to look it up when I get home.

I have testers set up now, gas check with 18 gr of H335 ad non GC with 19.8 gr of Win 748...because I could. These are the Lee 55gr bullet. Sample size is small, but I am never ever going to complain about stuff people sent me free, thank you to that wonderful person. IF time permits I will try to get out to the line tomorrow, no guarantees.
