Assuming both the P226 and P228 have the same triggers, the grip feel should be exactly the same. As you state, the P226 has a slightly longer grip to accomodate the standard 15 round mag (vs. the 13 in the P228).
The grip angle is exactly the same on both guns.
The overall height of the P226 is 5.5" vs the P228s 5.4".
The slide is longer on a P226 vs a P228.
The P228 mags have just enough of an extension on the bottom of them to make the grips length feel just about the same.
The P228 holds 13 rounds and the P226 holds 15rounds (9mm). You can get aftermarket mags that hold 17 rounds of 9mm for the P226. A P226 9mm mag will work in a P228, it will just stick out of the bottom a bit.
