.22LR Auto Pistol - Recommendations?

I'm on with the SR-22. Did a lot of "trying" at ranges before I settled on this. Loves any brand ammo. Reminds me of my old dog. I never found anything that she refused to eat.

MKIII...will last generations to come. once all the lawyer features removed you basically end up with updated MKII, with mag release button in a more natural position. good prices here if anyone is in search of one (no affiliation here just passing on a good deal) . i purchased one and had it in two days...excellent communication.

S&W 41. I have more than a few 22 handguns. The 41 is the most accurate most reliable most bang for the buck. I bought mine used for $550. It had a few issues to start with but it runs perfect now and I'm really happy with it.

The best I have shot was a Ruger but it was a MkII. The Brownings I've shot were mighty good but I'd prefer a Ruger if I could find one for a really good price. If I couldn't I'd probably get a Buckmark.

Another vote for Ruger Mk II. Classic looks , great history , great shooter , and affordable..

Plus , reassembly is a good test of character!

I have had the opportunity to handle all of the pistols listed plus some. The Walther and the SR22 are a lot of fun, but for reliability and accuracy I have to go with the 22/45. The Brownings are good but the grip and magazine release on the Ruger are the main reasons that I prefer the Ruger. I have owned both a tapered barrel and a bull 22/45 for many years and have never had a problem after 1000's of rounds. The MKII and MKIII are great also but a long range session will leave you with sore fingers from removing the magazines.

Mine was about $180. Of course, it's a Standard Mk-II (fixed sight, tapered barrel.) And, that was back in 1987.

The best? Quite possibly. But, to be honest, I don't enjoy shooting it as much as my "lesser guns." Why? The Ruger's just "too easy." The others are more challenging to do well with, and I enjoy that.

My friend has one of them and I've shot it a bunch. I've tried to talk him into selling it to me for years. Now I know what he probably paid for it! That gives me a a better bargaining position. Thanks!

Seriously though that pistol is very nearly the best shooting handgun I ever picked up. It's crazy accurate for what it is. It shoots like a rifle instead of a pistol. I'd love to have one but they are hard to come by. Anyone that has one is holding onto it.

Do you still have one you might want to part with? I guess I've been lucky with other firearms. For a while it seemed like every one I bought worked out well for me. That wasn't always true though. I've let go of more than a few because I didn't like them. But I have a safe full of keepers I guess.

I do more buying than selling. I just bought 10" #4 a few weeks ago. A guy offered me 100 bucks more than I paid for it less than 24 hours after I bought it.

Where are you finding those pistols? I've looked for years and haven't seen a one. Well there is this one for $700. Yeah right. I'm not spending a fortune on one. I know what they cost new and what other MkII's cost. But the auction sites rarely ever have this model and when they do the price is outrageous. I just looked at one that had a buy it now price of $1500. Still I can think of better guns to buy for $700 not to mention $1500.

Three came from individuals and one from a gun store. I paid $400 for each, including the one that was NIB....I shot it.

If I didn't have a 10", I would give $700 for a like new stainless before I would give $500 for a MK III with a shorter barrel.

Off hand, I can think of 6 other 10" guns amongst my friends.

They must have sold better in your area. I've never seen one in a LGS and I cover a large area when it comes to visiting those stores. I've only ever even seen one of those 10" barrel Rugers. BTW I think the price of the Rugers has gotten crazy. I know what they went for not that long ago. I'm not going to pay outrageous prices. Maybe that's why I don't have one. Oh well. I have 2 handguns that are more accurate anyway. At least they're more accurate than the 10" Ruger I have shot many times.

I have never shot a repeater .22 that was more accurate than a 10" with good ammo and a good trigger. If I had, I would own at least one. I have seen Ransom rest 50 yard groups well under 1/2" out of 10" guns.
