22lr pistol advice sought

Another vote for Browning Buckmark. The Ruger MK's are terrific guns, but I hear that re-assembly is a bear. The Buckmark is a breeze on that score. And, like the Ruger, are marvelously accurate. Nobody who has ever shot one doesn't enjoy it.

Well, I'm having no luck finding a Kadet 2 cz conversion kit.

I did get to see a browning buck mark camper today. It was rough shape, but felt good in the hand. Finish on this is pretty low compare to rugers.

Well, I do have a .22 cleaning supplies and 825rds. :)
Now I just need a 22 pistol!

I have the Ruger SR22, the Ruger Mark III 22/45, and a Taurus Model 94, and I love them all.

I recently installed the Tandemkross bushing in my Mark III and it makes all the difference as far as takedown and reassembly.

I'll again mention the Buck Mark. Keep looking. There are some really nice looking ones available. For me, the Buck Mark was appealing from the first time I handled one. I've since owned a number of Rugers and other .22s, but those are now gone and I still have my Buck Mark. My only other .22 handgun is a Ruger Single-Six, which is an altogether different animal.

I absolutely love my S&W M&P 22 Compact. It is accurate, a little smaller than the Shield, has adjustable sights and a rail for a laser or light. I carry it on the farm a lot, and have carried it in town with a Sticky Holster if I didn't want to go to the house for my Shield. It's just a suggestion, but I am very pleased with mine.

So, went to another store tonight.

Think I'm down to two brands.
Browning Buck Mark
Ruger SR22

I know, totally different guns. I'm trying to plan out my collection a little. Both of those two above feel great in my hand, but they feel VERY different of course. Thinking if I get the Kadet 22 conversion for my CZ75, maybe I should get the Browning. Seem to be a lot of accessories for it also. I will say I don't like the idea of having an allen wrench needed to clean the pistol. I like to keep my guns clean. Ruger SR22 wins there easy.

I'm also thinking about a threaded barrel as I'm reading a lot that people say they go incredible with a 22lr pistols. Ruger has that, but the Browning only has that on the "field target" which has different grips I might not like. Guess I could switch out the grips easy enough if I don't like 'em.

The next one I want will be my CCW.

So, I'd have
CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical
--Kadet 22lr conversion
One of the 22's above
CCW to be determined
After that....not sure but I want to get in this order.

Thanks again to everyone replying. Really helping me work this out in my head. Any more suggestions/thoughts welcomed!

I have serviced most of the .22 pistols listed as a working gunsmith at a local indoor range. The ones that have held up the best in the rental case are listed in order below.

1. Ruger Mark II/III &22/45
2. Browning Buckmark
3. Ruger SR-22 pistol

The ones that didn't hold up as well or had finish issues in the ultrasonic cleaner were:

1. S&W M&P
2. Walther P-22

This review was mainly from a functional standpoint with high round counts and going quite a while without cleanings. Hope that helps you out.

I currently own a Ruger Mark III 22/45 4" and a S&W 617 4" revolver. I used to own the M&P 22 but got rid of it because it was difficult to clean the entire firing pin area (a necessity on .22's).

For CCW you should definitely check out the CZ 75 D PCR (the middle gun on the right in my photo above). If you like your SP-01, you'll most likely love the PCR as a CCW. Same great feel and action as your SP-01. If you think you might ever want a laser or light on it at some point, get the P-01 instead (top left in the photo).

BTW, I also highly recommend you install this kit in your SP-01 and all future CZ 75/85/97 guns: https://cajungunworks.com/product/54420-ultra-lite/

I see more CZs in your future. ;)

Was The S&W mp 22 the full size or the compact? The full size one is made by Umarex (sp) not S&W and doesn't get as good of feedback as the compact which is actually made by S&W

So that kit will just make the first trigger pull of DA lighter, but won't affect single action trigger pull? I agree with your CZ assessment, more CZ!

ruger sr22. reliable, simple to fieldstrip, small enough to ccw with pancake holster, mags are pain free when reloading, decent enough accuracy.

No, it makes both SA and DA lighter. It makes more difference in DA but a noticeable difference in SA. It also makes the slide easier to rack, hammer easier to cock, and it is safe to dry fire as much as you want without damaging the firing pin or retaining pin (I still don't dry fire much, though, because I just seems abusive to me somehow :) ). I have the black hammer spring in my 85 Combat and it is fantastic. CGW says to use the blue hammer spring for any gun that might be used for self defense (says black might fail to set off some percentage of hard primers if you have ammo that uses hard primers), but I've tested all my guns and compared the primer strikes and the black (12#) spring makes plenty of indention in the primer and I've never had it fail to light a primer. Maybe there are some brands with harder primers that I haven't tried. I've tried Blazer Brass, Speer Lawman and Gold Dot, WWB, S&B, Perfecta (Fiocchi), and a couple others. Nevertheless, I use the blue spring in any gun that might be used for SD.

Edit: Another thing to note, the Kadet Kit may/will require a heavier hammer spring than will a centerfire 75 in order to reliably ignite all primers. I have not had a FTF on mine using a 13# spring (the blue spring in the above kit) but some people say they have to run a 15# spring with their Kadet kit to have 100% reliability, particularly when the Kit has a few hundred rounds through it since cleaning. I do keep mine clean, which might be the difference. Actually, I haven't even had a FTF using the 12# spring, but I haven't fired very many rounds through the Kadet Kit on the 85 Combat since changing to the 12# spring in that gun. Bottom line, it seems that the dirtier you want to run the gun, the more hammer spring you may need.

For whatever it's worth, I have owned or shot many 22lr pistols:
Of the ones I've owned, Buckmark camper, Berreta Neos, SR22, PPQ 22, S&W Victory.....the Victory has really impressed me......the Buckmark would be second and the SR22 and PPQ tied for 3rd.
I'm not easily impressed, but was very thrilled with the Victory. Only downside of Victory is if you have large hands the grip is not filling, but aftermarket grip panels are in the pipeline.......I high recommend the Victory. Having a stainless stee threaded barrel, slide, and frame and can be found for under $350, (I did for $325) is an incredible value, plus it comes with a replaceable rail with which you can mount a mini red dot/reflex sight.....

The way it works with CZ guns is that they are produced in batches of a given model and arrive in the US in waves. The Kadet Kit is between batches right now. Three months or so ago, lots of resellers were offering them, and as low as $369. At some point in the future another batch of Kadets will show up and they'll be readily available from several sellers for a month or two. This might happen before the end of the year, or not, as the Kadet Kits seem to be produced rather infrequently compared to some of their models.

The very popular models such as the 75 B are almost never hard to find, but many of their other models are periodically unavailable due to the batch supply.

This is the way it works with virtually all CZs. I have about 20 of them, and have watched this availability scenario play out again and again for years.

I hear you and thought the same thing in my head. Many manufacturers work in this fashion. I was hoping this was likely the case as many here think they are easy to get.

I'll be waiting for the Kadet and the 75 D PCR! ;-)

Also, figuring out my order from CGW and midway as we speak! :-D

My own two favorite .22LR pistols are a Walther PPQ22 (is not picky about ammo and is a dream to shoot) and a Sig Sauer 1911-22 Conversion kit running on a Colt 1911 frame (flat out the most fun practice and plinking pistol I currently have to shoot).

Find a CZ Kadet Kit. Buy once, cry once. They are worth every penny.

All. Thanks again to everyone. Really helped me through decision process. My plan has slightly changed.

1. Find Kadet and CZ 75 D PCR!
2. Trigger work on both CZ's. I'll do sp-01 once I get PCR.
3. Buck mark

Another comment on the Buck Mark, mine can easily go many hundreds of rounds without complete disassembly. I normally just clean out the chamber and barrel after every session. I take it apart every thousand rounds or so. It has given me no problems. I would never do that with a SD handgun, but it's just for targets and plinking, so NBD.

That will be a great set of pistols!
If you use the SP-01 for HD you should consider getting one of these for it. http://www.opticsplanet.com/crimson-trace-cmr-203-rail-master-universal-green-laser-sight.html

BTW, if you haven't noticed, we are more than happy to help you spend your money. ;)

Don't discount the Neos.....I have owned mine for over 8 years. Never had a malfunction that wasn't ammo related. The pistol itself has been flawless and is an absolute joy to shoot. It's especially appealing to kids and women because the grip is so ergonomic. I have average size hands and it fits me great. The Neos is also very, very easy to strip and clean.

I am in complete agreement with you on the Beretta Neos. Very ergonomic grip design, easy to disassemble, reliable and accurate, and well made magazines make the Neos a decent buy for the money.

I use my Kadet Kit on both my 75B, and 75D PCR. It is my favorite .22 to shoot, even over my Ruger MK II's.

I just realize that the Kadet will fit the SP-01, 75 PCR and 75 Compact. I also finally realized the difference between the PCR and Compact! doh! Really want the PCR now and REALLY REALLY want the Kadet!!!!
