Looking in my Natchez catalog:

"This is the fastest .22lr caliber bullet being manufactured in the world today. The .22 Super Maximum can be fired in any .22lr gun in good condition. This is a cartridge with ballistic characteristics not so far from those of the .22 magnum. Due to this it is especially suitable for hunting and personal defense. It has a hollow point. Made of Coppered Lead. Weight 30 gr. A velocity of 1,750 fps. 204 ft-lbs. Within SAAMI specs."

Hollowpoints $2.13 for a box of 50
Softpoints $1.83 for a box of 50

Anyone have experience with these? It doesn't even say a brand name, but it sounds interesting. Safe? Accurate? Vels as advertised? Thanks if you know....

Looks like they get the speed up using a lighter than normal bullet, and probably a slow burning powder. I'd bet they're optimized for a 20 to 24" barrel.

You have to be very careful when trying to upgrade the ballistics on a .22 LR. The folded brass case will only take so much before the rim blows out. You can increase the thickness of the rim, thereby increasing the amount of pressure that the case can take, but if you do that you start runing the risk of making the ammo unreliable because the firing mechanism may not have enough power to adequately crush the rim.

It's made by Aguila. I haven't tried it. FWIW, Aguila's Sniper Subsonic shoots great through my Winchester 9422.
