22WMR or no?

Over the years, I've bought guns from gun stores, at gun shows, and after having a FFL, ordering them from a distributor. The latest one I bought is a stainless .45 Auto, stainless 911 handgun, made by Remington, that I bought out of the gun counter at Cabela's in South Portland, ME. It's a beaut, and it has an excellent trigger pull! The latest rifle is a Rem 700 ADL, .223 Rem in the original box, found at a Marden's "salvage" store in Waterville. Not the prettiest and wasn't the best, but it was so cheap, I couldn't walk away from it. It was the second new Remington rifle I've bought from Marden's...the first being a beautiful .22 LR, 504 (picture), bought about 20 years ago. I've bedded both rifles and they shoot great!

The 504 is about the prettiest rifle I own.

Since these photos were taken, I've replaced the scope
Your wife`s maiden name wouldn`t be Oakley, would it?

No, but her middle name may be Oakley. The other thing that impressed me was how accurately she could shoot her single-action Ruger Bearcat, because it was way too small a handle for my large hands. She could pot 12 ounce cans at over 100 feet with that little revolver! It's grip was way too small for my relatively large hands, but it fit hers like a glove.

Not a chance, but her married name seemed to impress her into being a deadly shot, especially at targets that paid off in frozen turkeys. After she pinwheeled that target at 100 yards with my Remington .22-250, I wished that I'd had a side-bet with some of the nay-sayers!

That shot killed the "Turkey-Shoot" competition, because all the wives cheered her and their husbands were obviously embarrassed. Unfortunately, the club never held another fun shoot!

I wanted a CZ 22 mag FS for years, once went to toys shop and saw a CZ FS 22 mage used price was fine, no great so I grabbed. After, paperwork done went home after further inspection. Aha cracked stock, some lots of CZ magnum stocks were notorious for cracked wood. So, I returned even I CZ will send a new stock, thing very probably price will go over of my cost. I still regret it.

For me, sensibility doesn't enter the question of a new rifle purchase as often as it should.

I've actually been considering a .22 WMR rifle just because I have three boxes of ammo left over from the Ruger Single Six convertible I sold back in 2019. Somebody else please buy this and save me:

In recent times, there were periods when .22 WMR ammo was more obtainable locally than .22 LR or the .17 rimfires. That's a reason, right?

I'd start with the rifle. I've got a safe full of .22 LR rifles, plus three .223s and two .22 K Hornets. Still, if I saw a good deal on a really appealing CZ or Anschutz in .22 WMR, I'd almost certainly do something I'd regret later.
Right! I have never bought a gun because I needed it. Wanting it is enough reason for me.

Y'all have me perusing GB for .22 Mag rifles now.....sigh....I have had a .22 Mag revolver for a very long time, and my son has a Henry .22 Mag that is slick as snot. My buddy used to have an H&R semi auto .22 Mag rifle and it was a hoot. I really do need a .22 Mag rifle.

I used to have a .22-250 that was super-deadly on varmints out to about 300 yards. It was also very accurate and won many turkeys at local turkey shoots, including one on a bet that my wife hadn't shot a rifle in years, but could outshoot everyone with that rifle. The next week, she did it!!! Perfect pinwheel at 100 yards!!! She did it from prone, resting over a log, laying on an angle (due to being 7 months pregnant).

One year, when I was still hunting woodchucks, my buddy and I wouldn't clean our rifle bores until after the season. Well, I forgot to clean my .22-250 bore for several months, but it was in a walk-in closet in our apartment and leaning against a 4" diameter galvanized sewer vent stack. I didn't give it much thought until the next spring, when I remembered that I hadn't cleaned the rifle after the season. When I tried to look though the bore, I could barely see light through it, due to rusting! I soaked the bore in solvent for a day or so, then managed to clean it a few inches at a time. When I got done, I went to the range and put a target up at the 200 yard butts, then went back to the firing line and because there weren't any of the portable benches back there, decided I could hit paper at 200 yards from prone, even without a rest, so laid down and fired 5 shots prone then walked down to see how bad things were. To my amazement, all 5 at 200yds could be covered with a QUARTER.

I was very relieved, but eventually, sold the rifle, explaining to the purchaser what happened. He was happy to get it, especially at the price, so all was well. JP
