No, if you hand load. Powders in the slower mag pistol area will eat up that length and give you wonderful velosity. H110, 4227, and accurate #9 will deliverIs a 24" barrel too long for a lever action 44 magnum? I've never owned nor shot a 24" lever gun except a 45-70.
The whole point of a pistol caliber carbine/rifle is to have a lightweight, compact rifle. IMO 20" is really too long.
I do handload H110 for my model 29 S&W.No, if you hand load. Powders in the slower mag pistol area will eat up that length and give you wonderful velosity. H110, 4227, and accurate #9 will deliver
All my lever action riles have 20" barrels and I like the look of the longer 24" barrel. I won't be carrying it in the field so the shorter rifle isn't necessary.I like my lever action rifles in 16" carbine much better than my friends long barrel lever action. The carbines carry and shoot more comfortable IMHO.
Not trying to be argumentative but what attracts you to a 24" lever action 44? Do you think you will pick up that many FPS? Is it the longer sight radius? Or do you just like the looks of the longer rifle?
Yes I do.The only issue might be with half jacket bullets at low speed, but those bullets are rare.
Are you hand loading?
My 45c cowboy is a 24 and I have a 357 24 cowboy. If I can locate a 41 mag I'll take it in any length....Thanks guys, I just like the look of a 24" barrel. One of my favorite lever guns was the Marlin 1895 Cowboy 45-70 with a 26" barrel.

More lead makes for a heavier rifle. The extra mag weight makes the tube move out some from recoilThe longest barrel lengths generally have a longer magazine tube, that is a plus.
You forgot to mention the TAPERED 26 inch barrel. The sexy tapered 26 inch barrel. Oh myThanks guys, I just like the look of a 24" barrel. One of my favorite lever guns was the Marlin 1895 Cowboy 45-70 with a 26" barrel.
