Before the 7mm-08 came out (and my wife decided she "had to have one of those"), she killed a lot of mule deer with a .243 loaded with factory 100gr Remington Core-Lokt ammo. The fact is, she killed the largest mule deer buck (a huge 6X7) anyone in my family has ever killed using that ammo in her .243.I was wondering what is your go-to ammo for your 243 among current offerings for huntng?
Are those moly coated black bullets? We use Winchester ballistic tips in 95 gr. Black box, nickel case, and a black tip. Its wrecked the 4 deer my kids have killed
RL17 Generally is pretty good in 243, Yeah? For varmints, I have had good luck with 70 gr flat base bullets, Nosler Varmageddon and Speer TNT. Nosler offers it in their factory ammo, I load them with Ramshot Big Game powder.
For deer or antelope, I have loaded the Speer 90 gr Deep Curl bonded bullet with Reloder17, it did the trick on a nice antelope at over 300 yards. For a factory load, I suggest the Nosler 90 gr Ballistic Tip or Accubond ammo. They currently have the Ballistic Tip on sale on their website:

Yep, I suspect it is nipping on the heels of the 25-06 in that department. Before the 7mm-08 came out (and my wife decided she "had to have one of those"), she killed a lot of mule deer with a .243 loaded with factory 100gr Remington Core-Lokt ammo. Yes, along with similar burn rate powders, i.e. IMR-4350, H-4350, Accurate 4350 and IMR-4451.RL17 Generally is pretty good in 243, Yeah?
They are a black bullet. Not sure about the coating. Are those moly coated black bullets?
I was really liking imr 4060 with those 85 hdy interbonds I was shooting, never chrono them but they were deadly on deer. Think the 4064 falls flat with the 95-105s tho.Factory ammo I generally buy Winchester 100 gr PowerPoints.
Hand loads. I'm currently running 85 grain Game Kings, and 95 grain SSTs, over 4831.
Probably a little fast for those heavier bullets. 4064 is in a real common one here so I don't think I played with it yet..... It's not molycote. I remember reading a article in those came out, and the moly would stick to the plastic tips, so they found something else to paint them with. They are a black bullet. Not sure about the coating.
Can confirm complete pass through on 3 out of 4. Non pass through was quartered shot and we found the fully expanded bullet on the opposite side of the skin.
3 out of 4 died within 10 to 15 yards. One was hit a little low and too far back. He ran about 100 to 150 yards but I’d fault placement on that one and not the bullet
Ya but think they had a special name for it tho, never liked the coating if you pull a bullet it all comes off in the neck so can't be doing much in the bore. The old combined technology bullets were real tough, my dad shot a very large cow bison with his 7wsm savage striker pistol using them and they passed Through. Are those moly coated black bullets?
