T/C used to catalog a .250Savage bbl for the Contender.
I have an aquaitance that has one and has used it for many years to hunt deer with. With a 100gr bullet, it's very effective.
That said, I have a T/C Contender Carbine w/7-30Waters bbl. It is more gun than the .250. (it in fact used to belong to the said aquaintance... who sold it to a pawn shop we both frequent.... ).
Avoid the "Wildcat" cartridges such as .30Herret, ect. I have a brand new (but no box) .30 Herret 14" bbl. It has never been fired. I bought it in a moment of weakness for $100.00. Then I found out how much it was going to cost for dies to form the cases and reload them. (~$300.00).
I'll sell the bbl for $100 plus shipping costs if you or anyone else is interested.
re: 7-30Waters. No special form or trim dies are needed. Simply run a new or OFB case "properly lubed" into the 7-30 dies. Fire form with 5gr of Bullseye and filler such as cream of wheat, or as I did with a cast bullet cast from a $18.00 bullet mould with 7.5gr of Unique. Use new or OFB as "used" brass will crack in the neck (don't ask how I know....).
The 7-30 with a 120gr Nosler B.T. or V-max is about as good as it gets as a whitetail deer cartridge. Even the 120gr Nosler FlatPoint solid base bullet is excellent to ~150-200yds as was intended.
