I know there must be some Contender owners out there. After months of waiting,I'm at the top of list but finances put me on standby.
Questions: Has anyone used a 25-20 barrel in contender? Twist ? Loads?
The 25-20 is'nt a power house, but in contender you can use spitzers, and the brass is the weak link.[Long chambering will keep from loading in a 43 or 92]
I have a factory .218bee,and using lilgun..wow.I don't intend for this to be a bench gun, more of a utility pack, trail, hunting arm;thats light weight and you can carry untill wanted.[I know, I did'nt say needed].
I know there are bigger, better calibers, but Powder,Recoil, and Recoil have me using smaller case cartriges unless required.

I've never used 25-20, but I have used 256 Winchester Magnum. It has been compared to 25-20 if on steroids. I would think the 256 would be a more efficient cartridge in the same genre as the 25-20. Cases are easily formed from 357 mag and it will use the same bullets as 25-20. Recoil is not a problem with a 10" bull barrel.

My buddy bought a vintage 25-20 Winchester '92 and he had a heck of a time finding brass, tried to make his own from 32-20, but the lee dies didn't work well.
He finally ended up buying two boxes of Winchester ammo at $60/box.
Make sure you can find components before you order, but it's a neat little cartridge.

For the most part, there are a lot of 25-20's,32-20's,and .218bees in our area;due to the sheep ranches along the coast for generations. They were the old varment/saddle guns before the Japan Quarter Horse[4 weeler],and the old stores usually keep a box or two on the shelf.[.218bee @ 90.00 + tax for 50rds].
Mail order for brass is the cheapest,at around 28.00 per 100 if you find the right place,Bullets are difficult to find locally,[86gr FN and the like].Contender won't matter, just use up to 100gr,and H LILGUN,interested in how the Barnes 100gr works.

I had a Savage bolt rifle in the caliber. I wasn't a big fan...such a slow round and so expensive to shoot. I would lean towards something similar but easier to find ammo/brass for like 7.62x25 or .30 carbine.
