My son just purchased a small semi-auto pistol. I didn't have much time to look at it. He quickly told me it was an old german make (sorry don't remember the make or year, but early 1900's).

Anyway the guy at the shop said it would shoot .25 caliber. But, it is marked somthing like 6.62 (again, i am going off memory).

Does this sound right?

Thanks

Larry

Yep,
the .25 ACP is 6,35 mm Browning in this side of Atlantic.
(aka: 6,35x15 mm)

6.62 would be .260"... unlikely. Could be 7.62 (.30) or 6.35(.25)... probably .25. Since there was a "baby browning" in .25 all the way back in 1908, the cartridge is at least that old.

Thanks for the replies. It could very well be 6.35. I will check with him again.

TonyB, I agree. I would not have bought it. But, it is an interesting little gun. I also suspect it would slice my hand up pretty well because the slide is so low.

On a slightly off note, but still somewhat humorous and pertaining to calibers shorter/smaller than 9x19mm..

"Yeah, you could use a .380... If you get attacked by a gang of field mice!" ~My brother.

Just a joke, I know nobody wants to get shot, I know that I would never go downrange and let you shoot me, and I know "shot placement, shot placement, shot placement."

25 acp more powerful then Nuke.????

Walther Made a .25 early on so check them. Just a side note, I would not carry a .25 acp either, however A .25 acp did what 20 million allied troops with ships and planes and tanks could not.. it killed Adolf Hitler. So manybe the .25 is not so bad after all.

The .36 navy colt was used for war and by at least one famous gun fighter and in its round ball load is no more powerful than a .380.

Wikipedia: The .36 caliber (.375-.380-inch) round lead ball weighs 86 grains and, at a velocity of 1,000 feet per second, is comparable to the modern .380 pistol cartridge in power.
Is the 9mm parabellum luger round better than the .380, yes; and is the 40 and 45 better than the 9mm, yes; can any of them always do a one shot stop on an excited human being? The answer if no.

Both a walther 25 acp & 32 acp where found in the room after Hitlers death. According to his Aid-de-camp. The 25 was close to his hand and an empty 25 acp shell was on the carpet. The .32 hand not been fired. This is not the rumor stuff, it comes from the sworn testomny of the Aid. Another aid told the russians the same thing. Everyone thinks it was a .32 because some GI brought back a pp with "AH" in laid in gold. The aid goes on to say how he placed the 25 in his uniform pocket. The pistol was taken from him when he was taken prisoner by the soviets.
Just out of curisity why did YOU think it was a .32 I like to try an dtrack down these myths.
