.25ACP...Any worth owning?*** Updated***

A co-worked mentioned that a customer had offered him a ".25 pistol" for $70. No other details yet. I am anticipating that it is a Raven or similar dreck, but the question is, are there any .25s worth owning? I know about the Beretta Jetfire, so that is one possibility; what others would be worth the $70.?

Colts, Baby Browning, Bauer, their are several little 25 that are worth owning. Are they good for SD well thats a ungoing debate. I defended myself 20+ years ago in a parking garage with a 25 all BG saw was GUN verses knife and he took off. Most BG don't want to get shot. Might require trip to hospital and Police will be and they will need to explain . Their fun to collect and shoot now and then. In my area a Jetfire or a Colt all cost over 225 used and the Baby Browning even more.

I am still looking for a .25 caliber Walther Model 8.
I consider these as a .25 acp worth owning.

They're good for getting people's attention--if you're lucky...otherwise they'll shrug it off as an insect landing on them.

Wonder if the people that die each year from a 22 or 25 belived it was a insect landing on them. I never found any of you brave people that will stand there and let me unload a couple in them. Yet they always have a smart answer. Nobody wants to be shot ! Not even by a little old 25 or 22. May not be the best but better than nothing.

ummmmm, this wasnt a "is 25 acp worth a darn thread" it's a "whats a good frame that isnt a paper weight thread".

calm down, have a valium or somthing :neener:

Don't forget the Seecamp

When discussing reliable, effective .25 autos you've got to include the Seecamp. Pricey, but probably the best built most reliable gem of a pocket pistol ever.

I have an old CZ45 that is the gun Seecamp must have been looking at when he started up. DAO, no sights, but flat, smooth, and reliable. No longer importable, of course, but there were a lot made when they were ok for Americans.

LMAO! That is about the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time.

Anyway.

I wouldn't turn down a Colt Vest Pocket model or Baby Browning at twice the price your friend quoted...unless they were rusted into unrecognizable lumps. I wouldn't carry them for SD (safety issues), but I would lovingly shoot them from time to time.

There are several older .25's that are interesting for collectible value, such as the engraved pre-68 Llama 200 I saw at a pawn shop near here, and I still might buy. And of course the Colt vest pockets.

The only .25 I own is a Beretta Bobcat, it's a great shooter. Not a normally a carrier, since it's no smaller, and significanly heavier, than my KelTec P32. But it's a great design.

Ive heard the 25 is a better choice for an ultra small hideout pistol than a 22LR, because it has a more reliable ignition system: a centerfire primer. Sounds logical to me.

Go over to gunsamerica and do a look up on .25

You will be amazed at the variety of .25's available.

Lots of them are worth having. And once in a while you can find a good one for a surprisingly low price.

I have a Browning Baby that is definitely better than having nothing at all. The noise alone from the thing will ward off half of your problems.

If I ever come across a CZ model 1945 when I have some cash I will know what to do!

I've known a couple of folks who owned a PSP .25 and liked them. I looked for a pic, but all I found was this ad on gunsamerica...

"PSP-25 of Charlottesville, VA. Baby Browning copy, bought new for wife who shot it once(at husband) time to sell, blued, comes with small zip up pouch, gun is EXCEllENT! Perfect Pocket Rocket about the size of an AMERICAN 1$ bill!!"

I'd like to have a Colt Vest Pocket 25acp or a Baby Browning just for the "neat" factor. I'd never carry it for SD, but I'd shoot it for fun.

4/19 update: I finally arranged to meet the gentleman with the "25 pistol" today. Spent the morning going thru Gunbroker.com, etc, to see what current values might be. So I go to meet him with visions of Colt Vest Pockets and Baby Brownings dancing in my head. He shows up and hands me a.....................

Raven. And fairly well beat besides. I am so bummed right now! The Gun Purchase Hormone was in full-tilt boogie and now this! Had to drive down to the local pawn shop, hoping they had something worthwhile. Nope. 1 chrome plated Davis .38 derringer, 1 Armscor .38 revolver and 1 rusty Star PD .45. I think I need to go blow something up.

I think I need to go blow something up.
Just pull the trigger on the Raven a couple of times. It'll blow up real good. Possibly without ammo, even :D

Sorry to hear about it. Had a similar situation with a local guy who called me to let me know he had a "must-see" Sig P245. Poor thing looked like it had been through a rock-tumbler. The seller beamed enthusiastically that he had put "a coupla thousand rounds through it." Too bad it never occured to him to clean it at some point...

I have an excellent 25 auto that I think I paid about $60 for about 12 years ago. It is an FIE Titan. It has been 100% reliable. It is accurate, easy to disassemble and clean, and it has an exposed hammer that I like. I carried it for many years.

The safety can be removed and then flipped around in such a way so that it is easer to flip off the safety when you carry it cocked and locked.

I replaced it with my Kel Tec 3AT that is the same size as the FIE Titan but is somewhat more powerful. I just wish the Kel Tec was as reliable as the FIE Titan.

In the real world, my FIE Titan or my Kel Tec 3AT has much more stopping power than my Glock 35 because my Glock 35 is locked up in my safe.
