270 WIN Reloading Question

I always start low and look for my first accuracy node. Then fine tune from there. For me that one seems less temperature sensitive. I also find that if I crimp a bullet in it is LESS accurate. Be sure to do your own tests as far as crimping as others claim different results. Just sayin. YMMV

chrono the factory loads and use that as a baseline for your velocity with your reloads.

here is a "lower accuracy node" load that works in two different rifles: IMG_20190429_0003.jpg IMG_20190429_0004.jpg I know this is a different bullet, but there should be low velocity accuracy node with any bullet.

I don't have load data for that powder. What does your source say the expected velocity is for a max load? Most 130 gr 270 loads are capable of 3100-3200 fps. Expect about 50 fps less from your 22" barrel. I'd probably stop when I got to within 100 fps of what is considered the max speed regardless of powder charge.

Some powders top out closer to 3000 fps, some under 3000 fps. If your load data is showing 3000 fps at a max load, then I'd stop where you are. If accuracy is good then 2950 is a good place to be, if not you can drop down a little, No more than 1 gr.

If the data shows 3100+ fps then you should be safe to keep going. If 3000 fps or less is considered a max load with that powder I'd try something else. It shouldn't be hard to get 3100 fps with great accuracy with a 270/130 even with a 22" barrel

I also noted some of your brass is Federal, some Winchester. You should be using the same brand of brass for this. The external dimensions are the same, but the internal volume can vary by manufacturer. Federal generally has a little less volume and it takes LESS powder in a Federal case to get the same pressure as other brands. A load that is fine in the Winchester brass may be over pressure in the Federal brass.

Not knocking Federal brass, it fine, but you will need to use slightly different powder charges with it. You can see the same thing with other brands.

I've been told by a long time reloader that the powder choice is a tad slow burning. But the primer issue could be simple shallow seating.
