.270 WSM dummies

I'm looking for action proving dummies for .270 WSM. Brownells doesn't carry them (they have .270 WSSM) and I don't want the A-ZOOM brand as they are solid; they aren't similar to a real round.
I've Googled and came up empty.
Where might I find some?

"...action proving dummies..." What you're looking for is 'snap caps'. They're available in .270 WSM. Pachmayr makes them. $8.50 a pair. Go here.

Plan 'B' is to make a few DP rounds out of regular brass and bullets. Drill and deburr a hole in the cases and assemble them without a primer or powder. Mind you, I don't know why you think you need to prove an action.

Beats me.

Snap-Caps is all I could find in my gunsmith catalogs.

If Brownell's doesn't have them in that caliber, I doubt anyone else will either.
Probably not enough demand.

You need to find someone who reloads for it and have him make you up some, I guess.

I need them to test the feeding with a redesigned mag follower. I want to make sure the extractor picks the round up every time and that there are no feeding issues.

Could you just take the firing pin assembly out of the bolt and carefully use live ammo?

Thats all I have ever done when working on Mausers, Springfields, Remingtons, Winchesters, CZ's, etc.

Only thing I can think of is to have someone load up some dummy rounds for it.

I guess I don't understand,If you are trying to prove that it feeds then use whatever ammo you would use if you were going to fire it and point it in a safe direction and see if it feeds properly.

A few dented cases from miss feeding are cheaper than snap-caps.

If you are using snap-caps as go/no go gauges then you are looking for a face full of bolt,you aren't rebarreling a Savage are you?

Gunsmiths often use action proving dummies to preclude any chance of having a live round off the workbench getting in a gun they are working on.

I have a parts-box full of them in .22 LR, .45 ACP, 30-30, 30-06, .308, and .223.
I sometimes load inert dummy rounds for the less common calibers I don't have, if I have the reloading dies for them.

I also use snap-caps on guns that need firing pin protection during trigger work.

Perhaps you could load a bullet into an new or resized old empty case sans powder, and devise some method of marking it (e.g., painting the bullet) so you don't mistake it for a live round.
