I started shooting the range informal local league two weeks ago for the second year. We shoot 10 weeks with a different target every week and vary between 100/200/300yds. For the second year I am shooting a 223. This year is a Savage model 11 Action with Accutrigger fitted with a Model 12 Target trigger spring, Model 12 heavy Varmint barrel, Boyd's At-One Thumbhole stock topped with an Athlon Argos 8-34X56.

First weeks target shot at 100yds, Timed, with shooters required to shoot one round robin then get up from the bench, move to the rear and touch the wall then shoot the next round robin, repeat. Target scored as 135/200 points.

Week two target shot at 200yds, Untimed. Unofficial score 171/200

Week three is the same format IBS 300yd target. Then we move on to the fun odd targets.

So, am I correct in assuming these are 4 shots for score at 5 target spots with bottom right as a sighter?

If so…

Looks like you would have started the day pretty confident last week at 200! Doesn’t get much more centered than that!

Week one, did you have a zero offset, or were you fighting wind?

How did you end up among the pack each week?

Nice. Thanks for posting.

"Round Robin" means a) load 4 rounds, then shoot 4 timed rounds on the same target, get up, then 4 rounds on the next target or b) load 5 rounds, then shoot 1 round on each target, get up, then repeat? Week 1 is timed, and there are 3 rounds on targets 1, 4 and 5, so I'm guessing "a" is correct. Either way, congrats & enjoy.

Week one was not a good start. First the last time I shot was sighted for 200yds. so my dope proved correct and was able to move the elevation with no problem. Windage I am still confused a bit as the last time I shot there was no wind and this first week there was also no wind. So unsure how I got so far right. I moved 2 clicks and it didn't seem to change. Since week one I have swapped scopes! Seems to have helped.

Score first week; me, 135/200. Leader 196/200
Unofficial score week 2; me 171/200. leader 198/200. I'm may behind but there folks have much more experience than I do and most are shooting custom target rifles. Official score should be posted tonight.

In this case Round Robin is one shot into each target. Get up then repeat. So this week one was 20 shots within one 15min shooting cycle with the interruption to go back and touch the wall..

As a comparison Last year week one I shot a 160/200 as to a 135/200 this year.
Last year week two was 127/200, unofficial 171/200 this year.

update official score; 174/200. Finished in 12th position 10 points behind the person in front of me. 8 shooters shot a 190/200 or better this week!

Week 3 target. Official score is 155 after a 10 point penalty for shooting a wrong target. If you look you can see sub target 4 only has 3 holes. So this week I was 7 points below the person in front of me and 6 points ahead of the person behind me. There were 4 shooters with a score of 190 or better with the high score being a 197/200.

Next week we move onto the fun stuff. 100yds, First 2 shots are 1.250" circle with a .5" black bull cold bore. 25pts for the bull and 10 points for inside the circle. Finish with 5 shots inside of three diminishing sized circles with an all or nothing score. Meaning all 5 shots are to be inside the circle or there is no score awarded.

Well folks here is week 4 target. Had to shoot in a light snow storm that kept increasing as I shot.
Unofficial score for the week 155, Checking last years target score was a wopping 90 so yes makes 3 weeks in a row with a large score increase over last year!

WooHoo, last year I scored a 60 on this target and this year is 126. Shot at 200yds. Scoring here is inner and outer section while shooting at all numbers with the red double and triple ring. Inner section scores 10, outer section scores 7. Touching a line is no score, double and triple ring is also no score. Yes I took the chicken route and shot all into the 7 point section.

Target is 17" dia at the triple ring and the red bull is 2.5"

Pretty damned salty shooting! Looks like most of those two-shot-couplets fell between 1/2-3/4moa, on targets without true aiming references.

“Touching a line is no score” is a tough game - we talked a while back about bullet diameter influence on different games, and here your league is challenging both paradigms. Week 4 target scored on a line break, but this Week 5 target penalized a line break… pretty cool set of games.

Thanks, I am enjoying the Heck out of this and with all of everyone's help over the year my confidence is growing!

Agree that the mix up of targets on a weekly basis really keeps it interesting and challenging. Also over the course of the season there is a bullseye count for a money prize at the end. Which again you can see some targets the shot has to be totally within the bull and others just breaking the bull to be scored.. But either way it is clearly spelled out on each weeks target. Also starting last week and thru the end of the season there are no more sight-in shots!

Wait till you see this weeks targets. There are two, a prairie dog and a fish. With only 10/9/8 rings. The dog rings are elongated 4"X9" and the fish is a 4" circle. Both to be shot at 300yds and the fish is to be shot from the weak side!

This weeks targets and results. Shot at 300yds, 27* with bright sun, wind at about 12mph quartering away from left to right.
The dog scored at 90/100 shot from the strong side. The fish scored a lowly 45/100 but it was shot from the weak side! Shot each target in 5 shot volleys for a total of 10 shots on each.
On the fish the first 5 scored 37 points the second 5 scored a total of 8! Crap.... I should not have gotten up or taken a break on the fish. On the second volley I was also struggling to hold the eyebox on the scope. But still I did score 15 more points on this than I did last year.
