Seems like I recall some recent inquiries on the GP snub, here on THR lately. I did an in-depth review and refurb of one last year, and wrote it up for anyone interested in these tough little guns. The article itself had been in "dry-dock" for awhile, as we sorted out the issues related with getting the rather large file compatible with the webpage.

It may be found at http://thesixgunjournal.com/GP_Article.htm and we hope you enjoy it.

Excellent article.

I picked up one of these CAI imports a few months ago and it's one heckuva nice revolver. I was able to pick through a few of them and chose the one with the slickest action. It was absolutely filthy when I got it but it sure cleaned up nicely.

I'd really like to get one of those for CCW. I have a 4in HB Gp100 underneath the bed but don't want to carry that around.

Robert.

Thank you all...

Mostly I carried that gun in an "Uncle Mikes Belt Slide", in the Nytek finish. I don't know if you can even get that finish anymore, but it was slick and quiet under a jacket, unlike most nylon holsters. It will also carry a Commander, Sig 220, 4" S&W 29, and a heck of a bunch of others. It isn't the most comfortable holster I ever wore, but it just may be the most versatile one I ever used.

I'll also admit that the Kydex paddles have spoiled me. I work plainclothes these days and it is sure nice to be able to slip in or out of a holstered sidearm while sitting in a car. The lack of good holsters for Ruger's SP/GP series is a shame. I begged FOBUS to make a paddle for both of them, but to no avail. You just about have to have one made for the current Ruger D/A's.

Dave, looks like you got yourself a good specimen there.

Thank you all for your compliments, and we're glad you enjoyed the article. Stop in at The Sixgun Journal anytime.

Sarge,
one of the reasons for the lack of support from the holster makers is demand, plain and simple..

I can count on 1 hand how many inquiries I have gotten about the Ruger revolvers this year...I even removed them from the website...Now they are a "custom only" order...

I carry a Security-Six every now and again when hunting or camping and I probably will never part with it...It is also one of the weapons that got me started in holster making (couldn't buy one, so I made my own)...

OHH YEA.....BTW unless I am mistaken, Galco offers one for the GP100 series...

What we need...

is a good, open-top revolver holster with a kydex paddle- sans any straps, flaps or gizmos; covered trigger guard. The pouch can be leather, but it'll need a tension screw. The FOBUS is the most confortable paddle I have worn with full-size guns- but I saw it off right below the belt hooks and round up the corners. I don't go out in public without a belt anyhow, and don't trust anyone who does:uhoh:

Brigade Holsters is about to offer a revolver paddle, or so I am told; don't know exactly which sixguns it'll be offered for just yet. I bet they'll sell enough to make it worth their trouble, once it's in the catalog. My personal favorites are the Sp-101, GP snub and the 4" S&W Model 29. Guess I can dream...

PS- the homepage is down for a refurb, but the links to the articles still work.

I just ordered a 3" GP-100 from Guns America.

Blade-Tech makes holsters for the 4" in just about all configurations IIRC. Having them shorten it to accommodate the 3" would be a custom request. I may do this.

Will let all know about the GP when I get it. Thanks to all who have done write up on the 3", you've helped me decide! :)

Great, please let us know how it works with your 3" GP. I currently have my second BT IWB Kydex holster and really like them, may pickup the paddle for me when I get my 3" GP. I saw your revolver on your website/review of them and the one I ordered will look exactly like it. Thanks again and if I spot any 3" holsters for the GP I will pass it on.

Funny, I've owned auto pistols all my life and this will be my first revolver, and I am now spending more time looking at revolvers for my next purchase than any other pistol.
