I've got my .308, and we're going to sight my Grandson's '06 3" high at 100 yds. It's worked for me, but I'd like some other opinions.

I like 2" high myself so it'll be dead on at 200 yards. So long as he understands holds and tries it out at longer & shorter ranges, it's fine.

Thanks. You're right about shooting it a lot. He's been helping his neighbor with his horses for ammo money. He's excited but I got him beat, I think.
