I am looking for a replacement for my 30-06. I have a 243 which I am going to use this year but I want something bigger as my main hunting rifle as my 30-06 has give me some problem and I don't know what I want. I have looked at a 7mm08 the 7mm mag and 300 win mag and some of the wsm. most of my shot would be 50 to 500 yard I know my 30-06 would do fine but like I said I have problem with it this year. I am just looking now thanks

I have also looked at the 270wsm and the 7mm wsm I am just looking around I would love a new Winchester but I don't know if I could afford one I have looked at a savage.

My safety fell out and I put it back in and I ain't had anymore trouble out of it and I hate the tigger on it I know I could get a tigger job done but I want to leave it alone. I would be hunting whitetail thanks

WHAT KIND OF RIFLE IS IT??
There, now that we have your attention.

There is probably a reasonable priced alternative to fixing your trigger and safety that will cost you far less then a new rifle.

But we need to know what it is to offer any suggestions.

I'd say stick with the 30-06, just get a different gun or have a gunsmith take a look at it. The '06 will kill anything on the North American continent as dead as you want it.

I am sorry it's a model 70 Winchester. I really don't want to do anything to it. I guess it just a excuse to get another rifle but I would like another in a different caliber and I want something more flat shooting thanks

25-06. Deer don't take a step after shot with mine. But that may be just in Kansas. Best of luck to ya!

Why not just put a nice Timney trigger in it and sell if you are bent on gettin rid of it? Something flatter??? A .270 would do.

6.5x55 or 7mm-08 are great deer guns
+1 I have both :D
25-06 and 270 are both also great choices for factory, but for the handloader the little 7 and the Sweed are fantastic! Mild mannered and down right deadly, not to mention that both have a long track record of remarkable accuracy.
Tikka T3, Savage 110s, and the new Winchester 70 are all superb rifles. The Winchester feels and looks the best, the Savage is the best value and the Tikka is simply next level for accuracy and refinement. I own and shoot all of the above amongst others.

I have a 7mm Rem. Mag. and love it. Mine is a Rem. 700 and is plenty accurate.

My only other centerfire bolt hunting rifle is a .243 and it is a great gun too. I had it first and got the 7mm so I would have a combo deer/elk gun. The 7mm is pretty versatile, especially if you handload. If, however, you are only looking at factory ammo, I'd go with an '06. The selection is tremendous and will cover virtually any hunting in North America.

My only issue with the 30-06 and 7mm RM is that they both are just a bit much for deer, at close range anyway, now when I lived out in west Texas with monster mullies out in the WIDE open I loved my 7 mag. Nowadays if I get to see a deer much past 200yds it is a rare event.

Your .243 is great for Whitetail! My daughters is deadly! She uses Winchester 100gr Powerpoint and so far every one she has hit has dropped in its tracks.

Stick with the .243 unless you truly want to buy another rifle. Then, the choice is all up to you..

I guess it's that I want another gun that reason I don't want to put a a new tigger is it was my very first gun and I want to leave it alone. I have looked at the 7mm rem mag too I know slot of people around e here use the 7mm mag and a friend of mine had a 300rum and a 300wsm he used the 300 rum when he hose west and the 300wsm around here. I really like the 300wsm of all the the one I've looked at also I like the 6.5 creedmoor but I ain't found ammo for it local thanks

I like the .270 Win. Shoots really flat out to any reasonable distance, kills like lightning, doesn't kick much even in a light rifle, and the three in my family have all shot less than an inch for three shots, even a Remington pump.

I think that a 6.5 Creedmoor is a great choice for deer. But there aren't very many factory ammo selections yet. 7mm-08 is a better choice, as is 270 Winchester. I cannot recommend the 270 WSM because the ammo is sky high. $$$

Factory 270 WSM is no more expensive then 7mm Rem Mag or 300 Win, and they all cost about the same if you reload :) 270 WSM is stupid fast, by my math flatter shooting then the 257 Wby!

I know ammo is high for the 270wsm but I won't shot it but that much. How is the 7mm mag compared to the 30-06. I also like the 6.5x55 Swede and the 264 win mag but I can't find a rifle that I could afford in it thanks

The 7mm RM is a bit flatter shooting then the 06 but they are pretty similar in terms of power. 6.5x55 is dang near the perfect deer rifle in the real world, a world class sissy kicker that is as deadly as anything on deer, Tikka and Howa make nery nice reasonably priced rifles chambered in 6.5x55.
