Does anyone have any experience with the steel 30 round AK mags that AIM surplus is now selling. They are listed as being VG condition. I did buy some of their steel Polish AK mags awhile back and they were mostly brand new so I am thinking this might be worth a shot.
Also, has anyone tried the Portugese 7.62x39 ammo?
Anyone know anything?
Thanks.

I just got two with my WASR. One didn't function--the follower wouldn't go more than about halfway up the body (In fairness to AIMsurplus, I didn't contact them about the problem--they seem decent an would have likely done me right). The other one seems fine. They both have that sharp spine down the back--which I hate.

If these are the same type, personally, I'd pass.

I got a dozen at a gunshow years back that are much nicer, but not sure of their origin.

I've bought some of the ammo, but haven't fired it yet. On the other forums there is some doubt to whether it is actually Portugese. I don't know. Here are some details about it:

The waterproof battle pack it comes in says "200 CARTRIDGES 7.62x39" (in English). Inside are 10 gray cardboard boxes with 20 rounds each. The rounds look good - as pictured on AIM. The headstamps say "7.62x39" on top and "95" on the bottom (year of production?). On many the "7.62x39" is messy and near impossible to read. The primer has a green sealant on it.

I would be very interested if anyone could positively ID this ammo.

Are the rounds brass cased? If so, than they were probably not made in Russia or another east bloc country.

I just got my AIM flyer and I see what they are selling.I few years ago I got some South African 7.62x39.The pics that in the AIM catalog look like that ammo.I noticed that AIM has SA .308 for ssale too.Maybe what they have is SA?
Well, it was good stuff.
