My 9 year old daughter has taken to the AR platform with great interest in the last couple years. Some of you all probably read the threads of her taking deer with it. She really likes to practice, but so far, it’s always been geared to deer hunting.

recently she has decided she wants to start doing competitive/tactical type shooting, which is going to come with a much higher volume of expended ammo. Her AR is chambered in 300 blk and is wearing a red dot sight.

upon suggesting that ol dad either build her a separate rifle, (I was thinking braced AR pistol) or a different upper in a different chambering, I got informed that this was her AR and she wanted to use it. It’s hard to argue with that.

so without the suggestion of swapping rifles, uppers, or barrels. What is the cheapest route you have found for 300blk range ammo?

I do reload and so far, the 125g TNT bullet is the cheapest I’ve found. I don’t have a lot of time home from work, so I would like to spend that time shooting with her as opposed to at the bench for volume shooting.

Suggestions for both loaded ammo and cheapest route to components appreciated.

Federal American Eagle Black Packs are on sale at Academy for $45 + $12.50 Federal rebate bring the price to $32.50 per 75 rounds or 43.34 cents per round. The FedArm stuff is a better price but looks to be sold out. When I start reloading for .300 BLK, I’ll probably use American Reloading’s .30 cal projectiles as the often put them on sale for about $60 shipped per 500 FMJ 147gr or 150gr.

Mid-South Shooters Supply has Speer 130 grain hollow points for sixteen cents a piece.

Berry’s are always an inexpensive and very consistent choice for me in other calibers.

And going quiet is on sale today...

I completely understand your take on spending time handloading. But the Blackout is the most overpriced cartridge around, in my opinion. I couldn’t shoot it as much as I do without handloading.

Perhaps she could learn to help feed her rifle, too. All time spent together is time invested.

I just recently picked up 500 rounds from Georgia Arms. 150gr FMJ and I was very pleased. I think it was about $250 total, with shipping. My order was filled within 24 hours and I had my ammo inside of 3 days. With service like that, I doubt I’ll bother reloading the Blk. GA even allows me to send my brass back in for a credit toward my next order. And accuracy? Right up there with any AR. I was pleased.
