Funny that this article tries to claim that 300 wisper and 300blk are different things and that 300 blk is somehow better. So, what about it makes it better than the whisper?

It depends if you consider 5.56mm and 223 different. Some people don't. I do.

The 300 AAC BLACKOUT is different than the Whisper(R) for a few reasons:

1. It has a little longer throat so that full power ammo can have more velocity.

2. It does not require modified 223 or 5.56mm brass to be neck-turned or reamed.

3. It is a SAAMI standard in which ammo makers can count on one chamber rather than several.

4. Remington factory ammo is designed to work in normal magazines.

What?

You are kidding right?

After you remove massive amounts of brass you will definately have to ream the neck.

So the chamber has a longer throat. But what is different about the round? hint: nothing.

It is just a SAAMI spec version of the .300 whisper. Ammo can be transferred between rifles chambered for either whisper or blk.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.300_Whisper

"Cases for the .300 Whisper can be formed from common and plentiful .223 Remington brass by sizing and trimming to length. However, J.D. Jones has recommended against this, citing the difference in case thickness at the neck (compared to the .221 Fireball) as a potential issue. This problem can be exacerbated when military 5.56x45mm cases are used."

With 300 AAC BLACKOUT, we specifically picked a case mouth dimension which would allow for the most common brass to be used.

The throat is longer (like 6.8 SPC-II compared to 6.8 SPC or like 5.56mm compared to 223). The throat diameter on the 300 AAC BLACKOUT is 0.3095 minimum. The 308 by comparison is 0.3100. I am not sure what it is on 300 Whisper(R).
