300 PRC or 30 Nosler

Friend of mine just got his 300 PRC in. Bergara Premier Highlander.... Pretty sweet gun unfortunately he's only got two boxes of ammo that had to be brought over from the mainland by a friend of his....

Out of curiosity I made a 300 PRC case out of one of my 375 rugers So at the very least it is doable.... But yeah looking forward to seeing what these things can churn out.

Gun shop by my dad has like 10-12 boxes for 300 rum for $42each why couldn't I find it that cheap when I had mine loo. They got 150 Winchester 7wsm for $37 a box, t hats probably cheaper then I could reload it for now.

Nah I’m not a magnum kind of guy to big for me I just want to see this one done if it’s half as nice as @nature Boy’s other projects it will be a stunner!

If i have to pick one it’ll be the 300 PRC just on case capacity alone, you can download the powder to match the 30 Nosler, but you cant expand the 30 Nosler to the capacity of the 300 PRC

The gunsmith is done with his work and it went off to be blued a few weeks ago.

The 30 Nosler has higher case capacity than the 300 PRC.

I think the numbers for the Nosler are off. My 28 Nosler holds 100gr of water to the top of case mouth, and the 30 "should" hold a little more. I have some 300PRC brass on hand but its all loaded ATM, a 375 Ruger case holds 101 to the top of the mouth

I did the same search just now, usually those wiki articles are pretty close, that ones got mildly unusual numbers...they might be taking the water readings lower in the case.

This 89.8 figure was taken from Nosler load data, but Nosler gives the usable capacity with a seated bullet.

Fired capacities in grains for various brands of 30 Nosler brass, from an article by Ryan Furman on longrangeonly.com:

Peterson: 97.5
Nosler: 99
Bertram: 100
ADG: 102

For 300 PRC:

Bertram: 89
ADG: 95
Hornady: 97

The 30 Nosler is bigger but the difference is small enough not to matter. And depending on the bullet and loaded length you might end up with more usable capacity in the PRC.

This is good to hear sounds like your using top notch components/companies to build your masterpiece which I find to be a fantastic approach to a project of this magnitude I’ll say it again I can’t wait to see it all done!
