.300BLK - Poised to win or doomed to fail?

Not when compared to brass-cased 7.62x39mm. The cheapest I can find is $12.29 a box, and that is imported:

American Eagle is $15.49:

Have you priced an AK lately? They are not cheap anymore.

How about we compare to AIM which is the source you quoted for your own ammo price. $2.69 a box

Let's be honest and not pad the numbers to achieve a goal.

That is corrosive surplus ammo - it should be demilled but that would cost more than just selling it off. It took me a a long part of my life to realize this, but "surplus" is a code word for "The third-world country that once owned it decided it was not good enough for them anyway, so they sold it."

Because it is corrosive surplus ammo. It is in no way the same as new production non corrosive ammo. Of course it is cheap. And will destroy your gun unless you are super careful in cleaning.

Not in my experience. It is quite accurate in my SKS. The primers are corrosive, not the powder. I have never had a problem with it. I clean them no differently than my ARs.

I would say that we are being honest. You however seem to be trying to claim that these different types of ammo can be compared directly and they can not be.

All right I am done, go back to the sales pitch. I seriously doubt the bad guys can tell if it is surplus or new. Tin cans sure can't.

I really like the idea of an AR-15 in 30 caliber. It replaces my AK's and I can take full advantage of the AR's modularity. I'd get an upper in 300 BLK...but not for $1100.

I hope this round is not like the 7mm wsm was. I bought one when they first come out ammo was reasonable and now its pretty hard to find with out ordering it online. not sure why that round didnt take of hope the 300 black out does take of. I have a lot of uses for that round just waiting to see what it will do.

Are there any sub $500 uppers available yet? I have a bolt gun in 300BLK but I'm ready to try it in the AR.

Just buy a 300 BLK barrel and change out your 5.56 barrel. If you don't like it, sell the 300 BLK barrel, put your 5.56 barrel back in and go on with life.

I've never seen a new round take off like this. It's crazy how many manufacturers are involved.

It's a function of the capability of the internet to make something like .300 AAC spread like wildfire amongst manufacturers, IMO. No longer must word of mouth on ranges, at gun shows, and in gun shops spread the knowledge of a cartridge like this. An email list or Facebook post can tell 20,000,000 people in five seconds. An entire industry can be instantly aware of a release like this, can find technical specs, and with modern machining and design, an overzealous machine shop could be making barrels within days of announcement.

Poised to win? The cartridge itself is what it is. Are dealers making a lot of money selling something most shooters (term used loosely) think is newer, bigger, better? Sure they are. Is it a good thing? Yes it is. If you're asking if it will remain popular for a while that answer is yes as well. Will I ever throw a .300 whatever based on the little old 5.56 case barrel on one of my AR's? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease. I don' t think so, LOL

Can someone clarify whether or not 300 AAC Blackout rounds can be fired from a standard, 5.56mm/.223" AR-15 magazine?

"It can't fail"; sounds like a bunch of realtors talking before the crash. The next question is, if it dosen't last, will it have a "soft landing"?
