I just counted and had dies in 28 different calibers, however I just ordered another set in .303 British. Went to a gun shoe this morning and bought a Enfield Mark 5 jungle carbine. I was wondering if anyone could reccomend a good powder for this short barel.

Alliant Reloder 15 is in the sweet spot for the heavier 174-180 grain bullets. Slower than 4064, faster than 4350. In theory, 4064 should work for 150 grain bullets, but I've had better luck with 3031.

A friend of mine (who is also a British citizen) is an Enfield fanatic. He uses Reloader 15.
I have something in excess of a half dozen various Enfields but I just do whatever he tells me works for him.

I have fired a grand total of 10 rounds of reloads in 303,(had to cut the trip drastically short!), with H-335, and have a bunch packed with IMR 3031 to try...can't wait to get out there! Love this old rifle!

I'm afraid I haven't trying Rl-15 with 150 grain bullets, but there's a part box of Hornadys on the bottom of the shelf. Another project. ;)

Bye

Just got my first Enfield, a very nice MK4 no. 1, and I'm going to be casting some 180 gr. gas checked bullets for it today. The only rifle powder I have is IMR 4895, and I'm wondering about using that, maybe about 38 grains or so.

Jungle carbine

Congrats on getting your Mk 5. I got mine about 33 years ago. And it's in excellent condition. I also got 4,000 rounds of 1944 milsup when I got the gun. I have about 2,400 left and the carbine is still dead on. Enjoy it!

your 180 gr with 38 gr of 4895 should give you about 2200fps with about 36370 psi (49000 is listed max for that cartridge)

303

This is a good fun gun. I am a British shooter who has a number of Enfields and other WW1-WW11 guns and have never got the short jungle to shoot that well. Varget 41.7 with 180gr fmj is good or R15 42gr this should give you about 2376 fps that could through you about a bit, but good fun. Any lighter then IMR3031 is good or R7. They do vary so much and there is a lot of #### out there, you must slug the barrel or you will never be able to load tidy. If you like a 12inch flame out of the end of you barrel, get a Mosin Nagant to go with your 303 great fun. Ed.

PS best and most acccurate for me of all these WW arms must be the 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser. I will often out shoot a club member with a modern rifle with open sights over 100-250m with my 6.5 made in 1902.

All I use for .303 is H4895 - but IMR4895 works well too. Not as versatile as RL15, but you do what you can with what you have.
