If you have a 308 rifle for trunk or a few mags loaded for home protection what do you use? I'm thinking on going with hornady TAP after I test it but I'm oper for ideas. I'm not saying that 308 will be my main HD weapon but if I have it in hand I'd like to have something a little less penitrating than ball ammo for HD/trunk use.

If Price were no object, I would use Hornady TAP 110 grain, fast, fragmenting and less over-penetration. I mostly shoot 7.62 FMJ surplus in my .308's but for defense, I would prefer the 110 grain TAP.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the TAP line in .308 although the 110gr. seems like it doesn't penetrate deep enough to me and 168 seems to penetrate kinda deep before causing a lot of damage. I chose 155gr. so I can keep about the same zero with surplus ball ammo.

I got this pic off the web somewhere and can't remember where or I'd give credit for it.
