there is a couple of videos on how to reload Berdans over at

Not saying it can't be done but for the time and effort involved just sell it as scrap and buy new brass.

My first experience with the M1 Garand was in navy boot. Spent alot of time holding that sucker straight out in front at full arms length and it was a heavy begger.
As I was into guns before I joined it was great to get my hands on a military rifle and after boot was over I saved my money and bought one. I killed my very first deer with that rifle. Then I finally got to qualify with a rifle and was issued an M-14 and I fell in love. It was the product improved M1 Garand in .308 and I just had to have one.
I could never afford one up until several years ago and many years had went by drooling over every gun mag pic or website that showed pics or had any info on them. When I was able to afford one I learned about the PTR-91 and thought it was a great deal at around $850 and bought it. That rifle is not ergonomically friendly and I even got mild case of tennis elbow cycling the charging handle as much as I did. I sold it and bought what I had really wanted, a Springfield Armory M1A.
Now the design may not be the most efficient or simplistic available, but it is robust, reliable and accurate. It is a smooth functioning rifle, ergonomically friendly, it's easy to operate, aesthetically pleasing and it harkens back to a time when more of a human touch went into it's creation.

Write in for a converted Saiga .308. Would hit the wallet $400-$1400 less than some of the other suggestions. Dead reliable, more accurate than the AK-platform's reputation, quite attractive in my opinion; oh yea, and it is alot cheaper than some of the other options. Did I mention it is alot less expensive?

maskedman,

Cool... that's the Saiga 308 that I built. That background is the countertop at my hunting camp. :)

Where did you get that comb riser from? I need one for my S12.

lipadj46,

hehe.. yeah, the hunting camp is pretty nice diggs. I lived in it for a year while renovating my house. Right now, you have to have a boat to get to it-- the Pear River is up and there's 3 feet of water under it.

As for the riser, that is one from ACE, Ltd. It isn't on their website, but if you call them they can send you one. They are made for that stock. I think it was about $5.

Another vote for the FAL, mine is my pride and joy!

+1 ggs357: FNAR is great. Smooth shooting recoil, very precise groups. $1313 @ Arizona Gun Runners. Mags $44 each 10-rnd or 20-rnd, but currently in short supply - factory says they will remedy that. Here's my HB

fitted with Millett DMS-1 1-4 x 24 scope, Butler Creek V-Grip sling and FN 10-rnd mag.

I have the PTR-91, it is built very, very nicely. The recoil sucks though, I'm looking to sell it and get a FAL or something else that is softer shooting.

I have a M1A FAL and a Saiga .308 and I like them all. Great guns and can't go wrong with any of them.
