.310" bullet in a .311" barrel?

See, I just don't know which sized lead balls to buy since I don't know the diameter of the bore. On the website I'm lookin at right now, I have 2 choices - .310" & .315" lead balls. Both advertised as .32 caliber.

Either will work. If the ball is too small in diameter you can flatten it a bit with a hammer which will increase the diameter a bit.

You guys are making this way too complicated for the poor OP. He's new to reloading. He has an AK.

To the OP: .310", 123 grains is the correct bullet for your rifle. Load up the Hornady 123 gr .310 SP, FMJ or Vmax with reputable load data, preferably Hornady to their suggested Overall Length and be happy. As you gain some experience, you can try some other brands, especially the Lapua .310 123 FMJ if you wish to attempt to wring more accuracy from your rifle.
Haha thanks man. I appreciate it. I definitely do intend on chasing some good accuracy wit my AK. I currently only have Nosler & Hornady loading manuals; so I guess I'll have to get Lapua also! I think I might get a Speer manual for pistols too. Or I may just stick with Hornady. Who knows.

Wait till you start CASTING for 7.62x39mm!

I would love to start casting! What is this green stuff in the picture??

Ok. If both will work, I think I'll get the .315s. I could later use those for casting lead bullets for the AK, yea?? Or if there's not enough real estate in each ball, maybe use them for casting .223s??

Here is what I used to slug my barrel.

The first picture shows the fishing weights and the slugs after passing through the bore. The bag on the left was small weights, and dropped right through my barrel. The bag on the right was close to the correct size.

The second photo shows the slugs after passing through the barrel. The one on the left came straight out of the bag, the center slug was flattened a bit, and the one on the right was flattened more. Easy to do and will give you the bore diameter of your barrel. Then just get bullets .001 larger and find the load that works for you.
