32 iver johnson

It's the frame for an Iver Johnson "safety automatic" revolver. Pictures of the lockup area could narrow down the model variation. Most likely a black powder proofed gun, and most are highly worn.
 
Following up on rule303, can't tell if it's a first or second model, the main (only?) difference between the two was the latch, which is out of view. In either case the hammer spring says this is/was a black powder gun. Dates to around 1900 or slightly before (IJ's serial number scheme was, um, erratic).
