32 S&W Long in a Blackhawk .30 carbine

Shot a target today. Accuracy was about what you would expect......so-so at best. around 6-8" at twenty five yards. Not worth posting a pic. It did, surprisingly, shoot to point of aim. No leading in the barrel, but the gun was a dirty mess! Thought I might get some leading in the barrel, a pulled bullet measured .312". Guess the velocity was just too low. Only fired six rounds, If I had kept going I'm thinking it would have leaded up the forcing cone, at the very least. Probably the barrel too.

Oh, well, it was just an exercise in silliness crossed with boredom, anyway. No practical application that I can think of.

And I can't imaging myself in an emergency situation where I just happened to have a .30 Black Hawk in one hand and some .32 S&W Long ammo in the other. :D

BTW: You can also shoot 32-20 out of the 30 Carbine Ruger just fine.
In fact reloading 32-20 cases in the Blackhawk work better than 30 Carbine cases since trimming to headspace isn't critical.
Ask me how I know.....

I love 32 SWL revolvers in the true 32 size frame. Now strangely during the recent panic I usually could find a box or two of 32SWL ammo at stores. Now the shelves are full agian but no 32 SWL. 32 ACP which is in abundance goes bang in my 32 SWL wheelguns. Now it is not going even be put into my 32 S&W not long topbreak. One of these days I am gonna to rechamber my Nagant to 32-20.

just keep in mind that 32 ACP operates at higher pressure than 32 S&W L

I thought of that, if I could just find some 32-20 ammo to try!! Struck out at the last gun show. I don't like buying online, but guess I'll have to.

One of the guys who shoots a Nagant in the local vintage military matches reloads and resizes .32-20 to fit the Nagant chamber. I'd leave the Nagant chamber original personally, I have seen new factory produced 7.62×38mmR Russian ammo from time to time but it is your gun. But resizing .32-20 casings to fit a Nagant may be easier than getting 7 chambers reamed to .32-20 perfectly.

Oh. I saw a Clerke First .32 S&W (short not long) revolver that someone had fired with .32 ACP. How did I know? I could read the headstamp ".32 ACP" impressed into the zinc breechface. I still have the firing pin to that gun. I did not want them shooting that gun.

When I first started reloading I made some mistake and loaded 50 extremely hot loads for my 32 new police, police positive. The kicked and roared like my 357. I shot them up any way. In my first glimmer of good sense I reduced the load 10% and continued to blast. A guy came to the range with the first chronograph I ever saw. My 90 grain swc load was getting 1135 fps which probably explained all the lead in the barrel. I shot three 500 lead bullet orders with the load. I MAY have finally gotten the lead out the barrel. This load was UNDER the reccommended minimum in my older manuals. This experience has lead me to believe that heat treated solid frame revolvers in 32 long tend to be fairly sturdy. My Colt locks up tight has a tiny barrel/cylinder gap. I believe the heat treatment processes started in the early 20's. BTW the manuals I used have been replaced with down graded versions. However, I still question all 32 caliber reloading data as I can find data in modern manuals which looks fishy. I have no reluctance to fire 32 ACP in heat treated steel solid frame revolvers. YOU MAKE YOUR OWN CHOICE.
