. The 32acp has a semi rimmed design of the cartridge. I see references to “rimlock” and folks saying they have experienced rim lock jams –or not.

As far as I know most guns chambered in 32acp are small semi auto design. We do not need – or want – a rim on cartridges for this type of gun.
Is there any reason why the ammo manufactures cannot just redesign the cartridge into a true rimless form? They would have to either come up with a new name for the cartridge, or put notification on the ammo box that it is a new rimless design.

I understand there "might" be extraction issues with some guns because the rim is now smaller. But we are talking about approx. .01 inches change in the Radius. According to Wikipedia the base diameter is .337 inches and the rim diameter is .358 inches. With this small of a change are we really going to run into much of an issue???

The ammo manufactures would have to do almost nothing to make this simple change.

I believe the round headspaces on the rim in most, if not all, guns currently chambered for it. Losing the rim would cause all sorts of problems. Firearms would have to be chambered for the new cartridge. No mixing and matching.

IMO/YMMV: Not enough interest in the .32 ACP to warrant redesign anymore and of all the pistols I have tested only one "rim locks" with any degree of severity.

Easier/less expensive to get that manufacturer to solve the rim lock problem than to redesign or modify the cartridge. The present .32 ACP works fine within it's current design parameters. I have owned several .32 ACP pistols over the years including Berettas, Colts, Walthers, and Brownings...none of them has ever rim locked in thousands upon thousands of rounds of every bullet type. A few FTF or FTE but never a rim lock.

I have shot Tomcats and Seecamps and just about every pistol I could find in .32 ACP - the only one that has ever rim locked is the Kel Tec P-32 and even that pistol can be modified via the magazines to solve/prevent it.
