Out of a 2.3" SP101, I chronographed my 180 grain XTP/13.8 grains AA#9 load at a tick over 1300 fps, that's 660 ft lbs or so IIRC. Show me a 9x19 that can do that. It was worked up for a 6.5" Blackhawk, shoots 1400 fps/785 ft lbs in that gun.

Damn MC, that's cookin' "Ruger only" loading?

Carried a S&W M-15-4 (I know, I know, that's a .38 Special) while I was a dog handler in the AF. Just before leaving the AF, I bought a M-28 Highway Patrolman 4" blue. After going thru a couple of boxes I decided to get a 6" barrel for it.

Medium frame .357 - I'd go with a 4"; if it's a large frame, make it a 6".

ps. Where could I get another Highway Patrolman (yep) in 6" (blue - of course).

I can't vote for my choice. My Dan Wesson has a 4", 6", and snubby barrel. I can choose whichever I want to suite the occasion. It also has a Target, Hogue and an undercover stock. (It does look a little funny set up with the undercover walnut stock and 6" barrel :))

That is impressive.

Not to get too far off topic but since most are talking about handloads, does anyone know if/where you can still get the old school 357 rounds from a factory? If my memory serves me correctly 357's used to be much more powerful and were for some reason downgraded? to what they are today.

Personally, except for the Ruger SP 101, I wouldn't want a .357 snubbie (and if I had one, I'd shoot .38s.) And in the SP 101 I'd prefer the 3 1/16" barrel.

I currently have two .357, a Colt M357, 6" barrel, I carried on my first tour in Viet Nam and a Second Generation SAA with a 5 1/2" barrel. I think if I were in the market for another .357, I'd probably stick with the 6" barrel.
