I'm looking to load some 145gr. Silvertips for my 6" GP-100 for defensive/hunting type loads. I'm just getting my shelf of partial boxes of bullets loaded and making room for newer boxes of partial boxes. I have Bullseye, BE-86, Unique, HP-38, and H110 available and the brass is primed with CCI500's. Alliant's site was not helpful and I cant get to any of my manuals at the moment.

Anyone have any actual experience with this bullet, or just a good recommendation on a good load?
Thanks in advance.

You can always reference load data for slightly heavier bullet for your powder work up ;)

I have those bullets here but I've only loaded them with 15gr of 2400.
Winchester Silver Tips.357 Magnum.jpg They were too good of bullets to load light and waste them on target practice. This is the last of my inventory, I bought these back in 2002 before Winchester took them off the market for us reloaders.
With the BE-86, I would go from 7.3gr to 8.1gr route if it were me that LiveLife has in his post. That's 158gr load data and with the 145gr bullets you don't have to worry about overloading.
I have 145gr data around here somewhere but I have to get to work so can't look for it now.

Thanks so much, I have all the books and guides and pamphlets but we are redecorating and moving things around in preparation for the holidays and since all my reloading stuff is in the living room as is my ammo storage, some of it gets consolidated and moved to the spare room until January.

I'm thinking for some reason that about 1200-1250 fps is where id like to be with these so that gives me two options. I'm also thinking that the HP38 and Bullseye loads will have about the same recoil so that's a wash. I'm going to load some up with the HP38 at 6.5, 6.6, 6.7, 6.8, 6.9 and maybe a couple at 7.0 and see what is the most accurate out of the bunch.
thanks again.

I wish I still had some 2400, I would have just loaded them at 14.5grains again and been done with it. I don't have any CCI 550's or I'd use the H110 maybe, I don't think they would do well at that speed. I've had mine quite a while also, I also still have some black talon bullets left from when they sold them as components for a short time in 9mm and 308.

I would recommend avoiding the W296/H110 unless you want to reprime with something hotter/greater brisance than the #500. A stout load of Unique is going to get you there easily. The people recommending BE86 are probably also correct - I don’t use it so can’t say for sure.
Good points and thanks for the input. I only have CCI 500's and similar so the H110 will have to collect dust a while. I love BE86, but it doesn't look like it will get me the velocity I'm after, and I'm not hotrodding this, especially when I have other options that will do it safely.

Lead Slow and good for hot .38’s - HP38

Jacket is fast & good for .357 - H110 2400

that’s what I’ve learned
