As a follow up, I am still working on the .357 leading issue. My last 3 test have indicated the problem was in the lubrication and not sizing. I have run 4.0, 5.0 and 6.0 grains of UNIQUE so far (50 shot strings) and with the switch from liquid ALOX to Ideal solid the leading issue has almost disappeared. What is there now is easily removed with a bronze brush and Hoppes #9.
More info as I find it. Thanks to alll, Catpop

It's always nice to look down the barrel and see nothing but a bright glare from the shine. That said a little lead isn't a big deal as sometimes it gets to a point and just stays there. Depends on the alloy and the barrel and more of the voodoo of cast bullets.

If your getting 50 or more rounds through it with no decrease in accuracy or increase in the leading, that isn't a bad thing, as long as it cleans up quick with nothing being overly hard to scrub out.

Of course you can always continue to piddle with powders or lubes in the quest for the clean bore rounds, but if your getting what you want out of what you have, might just take a breather, and go enjoy them for a while.

No voodoo shooting lead , just need a revolver set up with correct demensions .

Think of shooting thru a funnel , meaning ,throats of the chamber larger than the bore .
& of course chamber alignment with bore , but if the throats are smaller than bore you`ll never stop the "little bit of leading". Next is the possibility of of " frame choke" meaning when the factory screwed the barrel into the frame it squeezed the bore down a bit , very common in this era of keeping production costs down , but I`ve seen it on all makes & models.

Next is boolit fit , simply put , it must fit ! PERIOD!

Now ,you`ve found as I have ALOX is`nt up to the task , maybe for lubing very mild loadings it works ,but if ya push the pressures up it simply is not up to the task.

Many lube offerings & I have tried them all seems like, then I found 2 I like & they work in both handgun & rifle. White Label Lubes Carnauba Red & Randy Rats TAC 1 over on castboolits.com .

These lubes need just a tad of heat to flow in Lymans 450/Star style sizers.
These lubes have low smoke& low toxcitity where alox stinks & drives my sinus` crazy!!

Here`s the bonus , these 2 lubes can be had for `bout 2 bucks for a 4" hollow stik !!

Now we get into bhn which people use as a crutch to lean on to supposedly help stop leading , but if deminsions are`nt rite it really does`nt help (just a waste of expensive alloy) . I use isotpe containers which are very close to COWW11-13 bhn (clip on wheel weights) & can get 1k fps easily sized to 3585, if I up the tin content 1200fps is possible with the slow burnin powders , the fast powders when trying to push lead fast will only start the boolit skidding down the barrel (skidding is the boolit going forward faster than the alloys ability to grab the lands in the bore & start spinning) for this reason ya need stronger/harder alloys.

Simply put we need to keep the throat/bore sealed with a lead/lube combo to keep the pressure behind the boolit.

I hope this clears up some of the voodoo of shooting lead projectiles.

Now if ya buy commercial try to purchase at least .001 over bore & measure em so you`ll know what helps & what does`nt even if ya don`t slug the throats & bore.

I`m done now .

Coffees ready!

GP100man,
I like the comment on fast burning powders and skidding. This may be where the Unique is hurting me and the 2400 may be better. Is this your thinking?
I'm slowly over coming my leading issues even with the Unique
Thanks Catpop
