I recently picked up some .357 Speer 200g TMJ bullets , on a whim. Now as I'm looking through my reloading manuals, I'm not seeing many loads for this bullet.

Looking for input from those folks that have loaded this bullet.

I don't load it myself, but my Speer #11 manual has a section on silhouette loads with the 200 Speer.
They load it 3 ways.
1 for Contenders, crimp in cannalure 1.690" OAL
2 for revolvers, crimp over shoulder 1.590" OAL
3 for revolvers, trim case to 1.180" and crimp in cannalure (no OAL given)
Each load has it's own data.

You need 200 grain jacketed data, not Speer 200 grain TMJ data.
There's 200 grain data on Handloads.com. Only with Vihtavuori powders though. Three loads on Reloader's Nest Hand gun using H110.

Thanks Sunray.
I have VV and Nobel powders, just not any of the ones listed. It looks like the N110 has the widest window, I'll try that or the 3N37, as I can use 3N37 for my 180 .40S&W too.

200's in 357 are either going to be WAY long or if loaded to normal OAL then you short yourself of a bunch of case capacity so the resulting velocity will be greatly reduced. I've only gone to 180's and kind of decided that in a standard length loading was as heavy as practical and depending on the bullet construction your ability to crimp it properly might be compromised. Trimming the cases down can allow proper crimping at a standard OAL but then you have bastard cases only for that loading. I wouldn't even consider 200's unless it was for something very tolerant of excessively long OAL where you also don't need to crimp, then you could use the case capacity for powder rather than stuffing it full of bullet.

I've played with them a little, using AA#9. I had seated them deep and crimped at the shoulder of the bullet. They ran fine in one Desert Eagle, but not in another.

There is data in the Speer 12th eddition manual.

Some other discussion on them at: https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/200gr-bullet-for-357-mag.700937/

I haven't tried hem in a revolver yet. I'm thinking I will probably use them in .357 Mag and .357 Max Contender barrels, where I can load them a bit longer.
