I am playing around with a T/C Encore with a 16.250 length barrel in 357 Maximum, that I am getting ready for deer season in Delaware. I have been loading Speer 180 gr. Hotcore bullets, in Remington brass with small rifle primers and roll crimping on the cannelure. I worked my way up in half grain increments using W296. Today when I got to 27 grains of W296 the cases started to hang up when I opened the gun. So I have decided to hunt with 26 grains of W296 and the Speer 180 grain Hot Core. I think this little max will be a monster in the bean fields in deer season.

Now for the questions. Can someone give me an educated guess, of the velocity and energy, that this load will have at 200 yds? 357 Maximum.jpg

That seems like a lot of powder 27.gr 26. gr of 296 its been a wile since i had a MAX but top end was around 19gr of H110
but that is a sweet looking rig you have

It's a T/C Encore stock that I removed the finish from. I made the forend from some Walnut that I had and finished it all with hand rubbed Linseed Oil finish.

House Bill 156 is on the Governors desk waiting to be signed. I was told by fish and wild and life that he is in favor of this bill.

Wow, with all the proposed gun control this year I completely missed that.

That is really a great development. If I am reading it correctly, the bill allows even a semi-auto rifle in a straightwall revolver cartridge!

If Carney is in favor, why has he let the bill sit since June?

Most references i can find list 19gr as max for the MAX, with a 180
QL thinks that load of 26 is making over 100Kpsi , velocity at launch in the 24-2500s. That is if i use the standard 1.99 coal

If you give me your coal i can re run to see where its at, im assuming your running quite a bit longer, cause 100K+ would take apart a contender pretty quick.

I tried pushing a xtp fast out of a contender 16" barrel & found the accuracy started going south at 1450 fps, I think the bases of the bullet was distorted from pressure or the twist take your pick.

Anyways we found the xtps when going fast would not perform well when hitting a heavy bone .
I`m talkin `bout at least 20yrs or so ago , & the xtps today I`m sure are different so they can be shot from carbine length barrels

My hands are worn & used up & I hold my mag as well as max loads to around 1k fps with a heavy 180 gr Keith style swc from NOE &wheel weights. The alloy is tuff enuff not to lead any of my barrels & malleable enuff to plow thru a heavy bone.
Sized to the barrel these are very accurate & stable lead projectiles.

Makes 2 nice holes & meat destruction is minimized.

1 other thing ,if the brass is hanging up check the bases of the brass above the rim for expansion & cracks.
