im just curious, why an uberti and not a ruger?
Hi...
If I may be so bold...
Sometimes it is just a desire for something different. I have quite a few Rugers in various calibers but, I also have a fondness for Uberti/Cimarron single-action revolvers. Most of my Uberti/Cimarron SA revolvers are in non-magnum calibers and have fixed sights.
Part of it is nostalgia for the old frontier days, part of it is wanting something different like my .38Spl Uberti Richards-Mason conversion or my Uberti/Cimarron revolvers with brass grip frames, case colored frames and blued barrels.

My Uberti/Cimarron SA revolvers in .44Spl and .45Colt are lighter than my Ruger Vaqueros or BlackHawks in the same caibers.

My biggest problem with the two manufacturers is deciding which ones to take to the gun club on the next trip. Both have their place and both get shot extensively. Vive la difference!

I have on several occasions been tempted to pick up one of those matte blued Hombres with the intent of trying some Flitz on the finish to see if it couldn't be polished up to give it a bit of a shine. I have a Krag-Jorgensen Model 1898 rifle that I had sent away to have it blued (it had preciously been chrome plated and used as a drill/parade rifle), and when it came back it looked like it was matte black; I mean it actually resembled something more like wrought iron! So I thought why not try some Flitz on it because I was planning to get the rifle reblued anyways. To my amazement the Flitz actually polished the "bluing" to a point where it looked like the blued finish I was hoping for.

Go for it! (Easy for me to say as I spend your money. lol) Again, the action is the same, so no matter what, it's still going to shoot fine. The price is reasonable enough, and I found a certain amount of satisfaction in modifying the gun to what I wanted.

There are a number of videos of people playing with the Hombre's finish, some just remove it to give the patina look of a vintage Colt.

Lots of options, all fun. I do recommend Van's cold blue. I followed their instructions to the T and was very happy with the result.

And yes it does take a bayonet though I never went looking for one for it.
Even though the U.S. Krag rifle was a Norwegian design, the bayonet for it was a Swiss design. I think actual Swiss bayonets will fit on it. I know for a fact that U.S. M1903 and M1 bayonets will fit on it. The cadets at West Point continued to have Krag bayonets for parade use with their Springfields and Garands. There is a lot of interchangeability there.

The reason the Springfield bayonet used a long 16" blade was so that the overall reach would be the same as the longer Krag rifle with the shorter Swiss-style bayonet.

Colt made some 3rd generation birdshead guns.

I love my Rugers, Old and New and I love my Colt's `n clones but they do not all scratch the same itch. ;)
