I'm thinking about building a new rifle for hunting. This is what I'm looking for...
1-short action, preferably Rem.700
2-medium bore size, .35-.375 area
3-capable to push 275 or 300 grain bullets to 2400 fps
4-detachable magazine-if I do build the rifle I'm looking at either Badger Ord. or H.S. Prec. trigger guards with detachable mags
The closest cartridge that I can come up with (less wildcats) is the .376 Steyr. My question is this, the .376 Steyr is a full .25" longer than a standard .308, will it function in a magazine fed short action gun?
I'm wanting a hard hitting short range (under 200 yards) compact rifle. The Steyr Scout looks perfect (less the scout scope setup and add open sights) but at that price I can build what I want with the optics and sights I want.
Thanks,
Wyman
